HELP: big bore cartridge holders...
Gents,

I am looking for cartridge holders/cases for carry in the field and while hunting...what cases or holders do you have, use, and recommend for the big bore cartridges, especially those that hold the larger/largest calibers, like the 600's and 700's.

Respects,

Phill

Phil, Jeff's Outfitters usually has their cartridge belt on sale, but it only goes up to 500 NE, or maybe 577. I was in several discussions at DSC, and it seems that elastic nylon loops, like on shotgun shell belts, may be the best bet for the really big bores. Jeff Wemmer's guys had a modular belt system where you add the cartridge loops, flashlight sleeve, rangefinder pocket, accessories pouch, and a number of different options that can be fit on the belt. If you Google his name, his product line will probably show up, unless someone here knows the company name.

Phil, there's your answer!

PS: Don't put more than 6 or 8 600 OK rounds on your belt when Dangerous Game hunting....it's hard to run with your pants around your ankles!!! :-)

LOL...

That's the truth...

Wound up carrying mine bandolier style...

Matter of fact I liked carrying it that way so much that’ll probably be my style from now on…

You can spend a bunch & get the cool leather ones or go to any sporting store & get one of these duck hunting belts from Avery Outdoors. Cheap, idiot proof & works perfect all the way up to 12ga + in size

Biebs,

Hilarious! I actually pictured some guy, probably me, doing the whole "Too much weight for pants" thing and "Homering" himself out on a hunt!

600OK,

Great suggestion...I always figured that, worst case scenario, a combo 12-20 gauge elastic belt setup would accommodate any cartridge girth.

My thanks to all for your excellent ideas...I will look into all of them before "Homering" myself out.

Respects,

Phill

Andy Langolois at Andy's leather.com made my culling belts. I kept one and gave the other to a PH buddy that was admiring it.

I agree. That's what I used last year for 450/400 and it worked fine. I used two 5-shell units, one for solids and one for softs.

Who makes that set up? Thanks

Fire Captain,

It was made by a fellow here in Montana who I used to shoot with. I'm not sure if he is still doing leather, but I will check. If he is still doing it, he can custom make them for any caliber.

Anyone who is interested in custom leather should check out the Cowboy / Old West Shoot community. There are usually a lot of custom leather people in that scene.

Thank you. I would be interested on one. I am having Doug Turnbull build me a 50-110 on a Browning 71.

FireCaptain,

Check out Galco, as a reference from AR pointed me to the Galco Safari Culling Belt (havana brown leather and thick, heavy duck cloth)...and the 500 NE/505 Gibbs belt with 20 duck cloth receptors would be perfect for that 50-110...$89.95/99

Bitterroot, any updates if the gentleman is still building the leather cartridge holders? I have looked at the Galco and do not care for it.
