GrandpasezWhat is least amount of brass Horneber would make-
For long wildcat like my 458 Hubel Express;taking
in account for new tooling? Here is picture again-

Showing two of mine flanking 458W,They are perfect for Ruger #1s and other single shots.
For my new project I need a 600 NE trim die or
seating die.Anyone have an extra to sell.Ed.

steve505I do not know about Horneber. From the Mast (Bell) webpage:
"4. What do I do if I want to make a custom caliber that is totally different from anything you currently manufacture?
We are happy to assist you. However when we make a new case base (diameter) it becomes very expensive. We usually require 25,000 minimum rifle and 50,000-100,000 minimum pistol order. The price for rifle cases in the .500-.600 base diameter is usually $1.00-$1.25 each. Please e-mail for other inquiries."
They still have not made the 505 Gibbs, which I thought would have reasonable demand.

GrandpasezSteve-That's what Jay Bell told me also, or if they made like 10,000 it would cost more per case.
And they are so busy, I might not get them for years, unless I had big order(Means big bucks).
And it is a shame as they make the best, are best.
Brent-I know of this Co. and others who make brass
with CNC setups, but I can't use machined brass,
as this is a regular pressure cartridge(40-55,000
psi loads).Like a 450 gr bullet at 3000+ fps.Or a long range cartridge with 400 gr spitzers at 3300.
If I could get a smaller quality company to start a smaller run, I know after it got started they would sell a lot.It is perfect for rechambering
458Wins-Lotts-Watts-Ackleys; to a real hairy cartridge or a super low pressure one with better
speed than any other 45.Even great for doubles.Ed.

RobgunbuilderYou have to talk to Dieter about that! My guess is 500 cases plus any tooling costs required by him. It will get pretty pricey unless you have a dozen guys in with you on the deal! Ive ordered 1000 600Ok cases from him and we all went in on the tooling costs.-Rob

GrandpasezRob-That's what I was thinking. Get a some folks interested and go together to pay for tooling. There are thousands of 458 Win-Lotts-etc
that could be rechambered to my 458 HE
Besides the heavy bullets it can put 350 and 400
grain spitzers out like 300 Win does 165 gr for
deer, elk, African plains game.Any single shot
is perfect(Ruger, etc).Any over-unders or SS in
458 Win will work for this. This brass case can be necked and hot-rodded.It can make a long 470 HE..How do I contact Dieter.I have the reamer dimensions all perfected
and getting them built is no problem.Ed.

GatogordoHow long is this case and what is the basic difference between it and the .458 3 inch rechamber that is apparently becoming somewhat popular in South Africa?
22 February 2003, 18:31
GrandpasezGato-This cartridge is 3.45 in long. The base just ahead of belt is
.527 in compared to .512 in for H&H base cartridges like S African 3in, 458 Win, Lotts, etc.I had 458WIN when I started developement,
and went to 3in, but it didn't have the velocity
at lower pressures with long case life I wanted so I went longer. And this is just a rechamber job with a finishing reamer,Even new chamber is easy with finish reamer.
This cartridge has the same taper as 458Win which
is perfect for case longevity. If you had 200
cartridges you'd have enough for over 10,000 loads.
This is for everyone.I talked to Deiter and I
want to build some brass and see if we can make this the Number one chambering in Ruger #1 and others.I have a price quoted for tooling and first run.Not as high as I thought it would be.I need a bunch of folks who are interested to buy some and we will pool funds
to get started.I have price on reamers($160)And when your done with reamers we will buy it back for next guy if you want.Or you sell to next guy or Gunsmith..Will have price on dies in couple days. The more folks doing this will get the die prices down.Better to have a 100 than 10.I want to get enough orders for big run.The first set of his tooling will do about 20-25000 cases.Three bucks per cartridge,
will get them tooled, manufactured, shipped in,
duties paid.Shipping and duties will be done
for me by a firm who has dealings with Deiter and the import licenses. You all let me me know if your interested. My email is gunowner@journey.com
or call toll free 1-877-551-2605.And if you have questions post them.If you want to do one, post it
so as to encourage others.I would like to see a
hundred. If a hundred guys started with this cartridge, there would be 10,000 in a couple years.Ed Hubel.
