Sturdy Shooting Sticks

LJSSturdy Shooting Sticks
I would like to find a durable set of shooting sticks that can be used as a walking stick while stalking. On many of the TV shows I see a set that appears heavy duty with red rubber around the handle area. Does anybody know who makes those?

Hog KillerMake 'em. I did.
You will need 6 pieces of 5/8" wooden dowels, and 2', 1/2" of copper tubing.
Have fun,
Keith

Are you using the 1/2" copper tubing to join section of 5/8" dowel for take-down sticks? What do you use to join them at the top, vacuum cleaner belt or something? How long were your individual pieces of dowel and tubing?
Thanks.

Sport FultonHowdy,
Bog Pods are the shooting sticks you mentioned.
http://www.boggear.com/The are the best I've tried. Used them this past May in Limpopo, SA.

Grind down 4" of each stick till copper tubing fits. I am 5'8?", so I cut 4" off each of the bottom sticks. I cut about 5" off the top stick that gats pointed in the direction tou are shooting. I just used rubber bands to hold it to gether. I got 3, 5/8" rubber gromets to act as silenters for the bottom of the three legs, they are held in place by extra rubber bands.
Really easy to make.

Thanks! They are exactly the ones I had in mind. Did you use two legged or three legged on your hunt?

Make them as tall as the shooter, when they are folded up.

Sport FultonHowdy,
I used the three leg model - sold them to one of the PH's, sent my PH a set from the USA and bought another set for myself here at home.
Even can put a camera on them to use them as a tripod.

LWDI made mine as well. Went to the garden center and got three pieces of 3/4" bamboo that was for staking tomato plants and then went to the crafts shop and got a long piece of rawhide strip to hold them together. The advice about making them as tall as the shooter collapsed is good. Put the joint 4-5 inches from the top.

jro45Midway sells them with red around the top section. They are steady as a rock once you have them set up with the legs pushed a little into the ground

muygrandeIf your engineering ability is equal to mine look up the sticks at Long Grass.

I've been looking at the Bog-Pod myself. What did you like about it vs. others you have tried?

Sport FultonHowdy,
They have a very nice feel, balance, sturdy, swival top, rubber or metal "spike" bottoms and steady-I like to rest my left arm on them while steadying my rifle since I'm a right handed shooter.
I've tried some of the others and even tried to make a few sets myself but these are my favorites and I'm not associated in anyway with the company that sells them-just my own opinion that comes from using them.
