dogworker416 Taylor and Ballistics Chart Help
Gents,
Had a worm crash and lost a program I found through a link on here. It had rifle data sheets, ballistic charts, load charts, etc.... I'd really like to find it again if anyone can be of help. Or something similar.
I bought a 416 Taylor from a member here. It's on a commercial FN action with a fluted shilen barrel and a checkered laminated stock (looks like real wood with longitudinal laminations). Mel Smarts is the name attached to the stock work.
Finally started shooting it and it's a dream. I've read about every load there is but the former owner recommended IMR 4320. I've loaded 70 grains behind Speer 350's. Comfortable to shoot and accurate offhand.
Anybody got any experience with these loads, ideas, or info?
Know it's generic but trying to educate myself further on this one. I like it.
Best,

Marrakaidogworker:
I prefer Pointblank v1.8a, a good freebee software package with excellent ballistics chart display. Get it here:
http://www.huntingnut.com/pointblank.htmlMy favourite load for the .416 Taylor is 70 gr Varget behind Woodleigh's 410gr Rigby bullet. In my custom Mauser, this load turns up 2280 fps, which no doubt many here will turn up their noses at, but it kills big buffalo like lightning with shoulder shots, and cases last forever. There is still a bit of space left in the case, but I have never felt the need to add more powder!
Love the .416 Taylor!

dogworkerThat's the one I was looking for. Thanks much. From searching this forum, it seems that the Taylor gets fed a bunch of different powders. Think I'm going to experiment with the 4320, RL-15, Varget. Rifle only has about 60 rounds through it, so I'll keep trying while I "break it in". Again, thanks for the info.

<lb404>I use 72 gr. H4895 behind a 400 gr. Swift A-frame. Out of the 22"barrel of My 416 Taylor, I can achieve 2325f/s and excellent accuracy. It accounted for a fine cape buffalo in Tanzania in July.
