Ruger tang safety 458win
So a while back I picked up one of these and it was a bubba special. No finish on the stock, bbl cut to 20" and rechambered to Lott but no mag mods done. I sent it back. So now I find another one in what looks like 95% shape. Shot 4 times by original owner and the second owner has yet to shoot it. So I buy it. The good news. The blueing is amazing and the gun looks unused. Very little shot through this. The bad news. A muzzle break installed. A nice one but I hate breaks. I saw this on the pics so it's all good. Once I got this gun in my hands I realize its way over weight. It must have a pound of lead in the butt. Decelerator pad on it too. And the top of the comb has been modified for a larger thumb. I fixed that up a bit with the sand paper. I figure a new stock and we are off and running again. I give up on finding an unmolested 458. On the bright side this should be an easy shooter. Recoil like a 243?

That is one of the early guns and it has a huge barrel and its complaint was then as is today, weight, that is untill one shoots the 458 Lott with full bore loads then one deems it too damn light and also thinks maybe two brakes in line would be a surpurfalous idea! Did I spell that right? BOOM flame

Yeah I will shoot it some and then see if it needs a diet. It could be my easy shooting big bore for rocks and such.

I got lucky about 6 months ago and picked up one of the 458 Rugers with a tang safety in mint condition for 600.00 Had to send it back to Ruger because every time you shot it the magazine would open and dump all of the remaining shells onto the ground. They replaced the stock and floorplate at no charge even knowing that I wasn't the original purchaser and did away with the problems. Nice shooting rifle.

They are a nice gun. I got to shoot mine twice and it was easy going even with a 500gr load. The firs shot chipped the stock though. Just my luck.

I have one of the tang safety vintage. I love it. It may be slightly heavy but is very well balanced, throws up and points like a fine shotgun.

Shoots MOA with Hornady 350 grain soft points.

The only flaw is the thin metal magazine box will bend after a few rounds which causes it to misfeed. I'll get around to fixing it some day.

seems to me these guns have a few issues. I guess it's like a classic car? Maybe. Work it out and its a great gun
