The 45/70 and barrel lengths
I am looking into a big bore, the Grand old 45/70.

First, I am considering the Marlin, 1895cb 26in octagon barrel. The printed info I have seen does not indicate great velocity increases with the longer barrel length. In articles I have seen there has been a tendency to produce larger groups. This could be due to the lighter barrel, whipping(HARMONICS)

So help me out guys. What have been your findings?

Thanks...

A 26" tube for the 45-70 is a waste of steel...You need to check out a Guide Gun with a 18.5" barrel because it is in a "perfect" configuration for this caliber. By the way, the 45-70 is not a big bore by any stretch of imagination but it can be classified as small big bore.
