MauserkidThe 45/70 and barrel lengths
I am looking into a big bore, the Grand old 45/70.
First, I am considering the Marlin, 1895cb 26in octagon barrel. The printed info I have seen does not indicate great velocity increases with the longer barrel length. In articles I have seen there has been a tendency to produce larger groups. This could be due to the lighter barrel, whipping(HARMONICS)
So help me out guys. What have been your findings?
Thanks...

MauserA 26" tube for the 45-70 is a waste of steel...You need to check out a Guide Gun with a 18.5" barrel because it is in a "perfect" configuration for this caliber. By the way, the 45-70 is not a big bore by any stretch of imagination but it can be classified as small big bore.
