Did you notice the amount of debt they bought for that price? To me it seems that Remington have income problems. It may be that this marked is to hard for old firms like Remington/Winchester. This marked is completely different from the fishing rod marked where everyone have a tendency to believe that a 3 year old rod is worn out. A gun don't wear out like that and it is a limited marked in the end especially when we talk about boltrifles. Especially in Europe where restrictions on guns is way worse than in the US. There is also one more restricting problem, if you are married you know what I mean. :-)

Market conditions had nothing to do with big green going under. It is a prime example of what happens when you repeatedly shit on your customers!

I can't think of a firearms company, domestic that is, that has not gone through some total new ownership, demise, top management change(as in Ruger) over the past few years. I would have a hard time counting the various owners of Smith and Wesson. It would appear that the firearms business is feast or famine whether the product is good or bad. The much loved Winchester firm, gone from the scene until further notice, Ithaca gone until further notice??, Thompson Center now owned by the owners of Smith and Wesson??, and on and on.
New owners/management of Remington, providing they can lighten the debt load, have good opportunity to bite into market of others at this time. Any chance of growth, increase market share is always subject improved quality. Time will tell. Take a look at Rem.'s MSRP vs Ruger's MSRP on the 77 model. Big gap vs product in my opinion.

Your right. Remington was SOLD, but only b/c they were on the verge of going under. Don't believe me? Just look at the debt that the new company acquired. It was three times the amount of all other assets.

I hope the new ownership does a little house cleaning, starting with the lying dog that was on the NRA program at the SHOT Show and said there would be no DR "due to lack of consumer response/demand...". All the CNC machinery they bought about twelev years ago and woofed about at the 1995 SHOT Show in Dallas (IIRC) their stuff should be very high quality and reasonably priced.
The union bashing stopped, once people realized that the half-price labor pool in the carolina's was not doing as good a job as the old crew in Ilion, NY.

I came up with a number of items that would bring sales to Remington without manufacturing problems. One was each year, take a different caliber, screw the barrel on a standard Left Hand action (short or long) and sell it as a one year only product with some fanfare. There would be an immediate buy so that "I'm not left out." Was told they couldn't do it. I've been taking take-off Rem barrels and putting them on my rifles for years. No problem.

I guess the "Rem 710" rifle thing paid off . . .

Unless the new owners make some drastic changes,in quality control, they will be on that same down hill slide the green was!
