DB BillQuestion On Length Of Some .458 Bullets?
Before I start buying bullets to reload my .450 Marlin bolt-action (which will be sensitive to bullet length as I will be compressing the powder) I would like to find out how long some of them are so if any of you have some of these bullets on your shelf would appreciate it if you would measure their length.

N E 450 No2DB Bill
350 Hornady Round Nose oal .930, distance from base to center of cannelure @.510.
350 Hornady Flat Nose oal .900, distance from base to center of cannelure @.445.
The round nose has more bullet below the cannelure. The flat nose will protrude slightly farther out of the case, but will take up less powderspace. I have used the round nose in a 45/70 Ruger No1 at 1900fps and in a Marlin lever at 1800 fps and in my 450 No2 at 2300 fps with excellent results on game. In all the years I have used it I have only recovered one that hit a pig head on from my 450 No2. It was recovered in the rear flank after busting the skull and several ribs. It was mushroomed perefectly and had retained good weight. I have not tried the flat point bullets yet.

DB BillThanks for the info on the Hornady...I will be using a Lee Factory Crimp Die so the position of the cannelure isn't critical for my use.
