RobinBBitterly disappointed with 505 Gibbs
Went shooting a CZ 505 Gibbs with a friend today. Was expecting detached retina, nose bleeds and perforated ear drums. Didn’t happen!
What a blast! Explaining to the wife that our squirrel problem needs a 505 is going to require some tact!

Scott KingI was thinking about posting this info over in the 45/70 threads but decided it would be a waste of time.
Barry Duckworth, the very well respected and experienced Zimbabwe PH has an estimated 1000- 1200 elephants to his credit. As he told me when I got to meet him in October, for years he used a .458 win mag but got to feeling undergunned later in life and now uses a 505 Gibbs. He offered to let me shoot it but I declined.
Robin it would appear that you and experienced Rhodesian PH's have something in common.

Idaho Sharpshootertell her you can always shoot cast in it for vermin control, and it will be cheaper to shoot than factory 7mm or 300 magnums. I borrow my brother's 50-90 Sharps 650gr mould and make a coffee can full twice a year. The hassle is turning the plain base bullet down to .464"(IIRC) for Hornady gas checks, and swaging them down from .511 to .506" in a die I made. My lovely wife bought me a lathe for Christmas, and I found a set of collets cheap. Two hours twice a year to cast, and an hour twice a year to revamp them is cheap enough for 300 good bullets a whack. I am going to have to get a good mould made though...
BTW, it was some wicked good fun wasn't it?
