mrfuddlooking for big bore advice
I want to get a big bore and am looking for rifle and cartridge recommendations. I currently have a 9.3x62 and a 375 H&H on model 70 Classic actions. I also have 2 pre-64 300 H&H rifles (1 of them has been refinished). Rifle will be for possible tuskless ele & buffalo.
Given the above, what cartrides should I consider?
BTW- I have thought about a 416 Rem Mag on the refinished H&H and a .404 on a CZ

.366torqueHa ha ha!! Get the 458 Lott.
Then you'll have a 300H&H, 375H&H and a 458 Lott. It'll make the perfect Safari battery!
I'm laughing because I'm trying to talk Keith into getting a 300H&H, as he has the 375H&H and the Lott.

jstevensA .416 if you just want another rifle, otherwise use the .375 and take the 9.3x62 for a backup.

Zedo.458 Lott seems to be "the choice" for DG. Apparently ammo is readily available, even in the boonies. .458 Lott also chambers .458 Win. Mag.
500 gr. 2,100 -- 2,200 fps realm. I do believe the round used at the header for this forum is .458 Win. Mag. or Lott. I think Win. Mag. and about actual size on 640 x 480 res.

AtkinsonI see nothing wrong with your choices of a .416 or 404, great calibers and they get the job done..
The 458 Lott is a whiz banger but the recoil is pretty grim if you load it up to where it should be, and if you don't load it up there then you don't have a .458 Lott.
If I was going to shoot a .458 Lott and take all that punishment, then I would just as soon opt for a 500 Jefferys or 505 Gibbs.
All that said, I really am satisfied with the 416 Rem and 404 Jefferys, those are my hunting guns.

srshooterSince you've got a .375 H&H the .458 Lott seems like the logical choice and is a good step up class. The ability to shoot .458 Winchester Mag ammo out of the Lott is Icing on the cake. There are lots of great and affordable bullets available too.
If the Lott doesn't do it for you, you might want to look into one of the big .500's like the .500 A-Square or .500 AR.....huge power/penetration ability and, again, lots of great bullets! Good Luck!
