M70 Super Express 375

Just wondering if anybody has any experiences with the Winchester Model 70 Super Express in 375 H&H. I have a line on one that is in almost perfect condition for a good price. Just wondering about the short barrel length (22 inches).

I don't consider 22 inch barrel as a problem with the 375 H&H.

I may be wrong on this, wouldn't be the first, or last time, but I don't believe that any Winchester Super Express in 375 was offered with a 22" barrel length. The 458 was, but not the 375. At least that was my experience in 20+ years in the gun business. I would check the barrel length again and then if it still comes up as 22", check to see if it was cut.

I have not actually seen the gun. My dad is going to buy it for me as a college graduation present. I found some on the internet and the only one that listed the barrel length was 22", I believe it was a 416 or 458. Would like it if the barrel was longer. Bill, I live between Jonesboro and Cranfills Gap.

I own a Winchester Mod. 70 Safari Express.
It has a matte black finish. It is very accurate and feeds properly.

I'm not fond of the standing adjustable leaf, but I can live with it!

All in all, a good rifle!

I've had two of these in 375. Winchester built some with a pot metal (or similar) gas check on the side of the bolt opposite the extractor. The one on my M70 broke and locked up the rifle. I strongly recommend that you have a competent smith check this out. I recommend replacement of the entire extractor assembly with a Williams. Their's is all milled steel.

The feed ramp probably needs polishing, too. Also, check the sights. On one of my M70's, the front sight was screwed on finger tight, fell off. Don't trust anything on a factory rifle. The weird stories you hear are true!

If this rifle was made prior to 1993 it is a push feed not a controlled round feed. The CRF models were called Classic Super Express. I don't know which you are looking for but just thought I'd let you know.

The "Safari Express" lettered on the right side of the barrel opposite the caliber etc. rifle is a control feed, the three I had were made about 1998 and had 24" barrels in 375, 416 Rem. and 458. I still have the .416 Rem. new in the box and am holding on to it as the value is sky rocketing in that caliber. The 375s are maintaining at about $850 average, the .458 about $1100 average. The 416 are up to $2200 to $2400

The last one I saw NIB was a Classic Super Express and was priced similarly to a Safari Express, +/-. The Classic Super Expresses are lighter than the Safari Expresses and some find them more appealing, although the rear sight is a flip-up style. The push-feed versions are less desirable.
