Thoughts on these loads
Got these loads today from a gentleman. These would be max hot loads for my new Pedersoli Sharps rifle, loads to help get me "seasoned".

500 grain Hornady soft point
Fed 210 primer
Starline brass

66.9 grains of Reloder 7 for 2117 fps

56.1 grains of IMR4198 for 1951 fps

Both loads are said to be very accurate and safe, albeit maximum loads. I figured I would start with the IMR4198 load and work my way into the Rel 7.

Does this sound real to you all.

Thanks,

Forgive me for asking, Scott, but what are you "seasoning" yourself for? Have I missed something all these years? I always thought guns were to shoot and enjoy.

I am "seasoning" my shoulder so that I can shoot a real big bore rifle sooner rather than later. I went out today and fired off some lever action level loads with the 405 gr Remington FP and my shoulder is sore and bruised, but I am confident that if I tough it out, soon I will be "seasoned" enough to get a my first true Africa ready big bore rifle!
That is my plan anyway.

Good luck then. I'm anxious to see the report of your firing this rifle. It's caught my interest. Jim

Pecos,

Found a duplex load for my 50 Beowulf and 420 grain hard cast that beat the stuffens out of my shoulder Sunday. This load is far more "nasty" than the old 45-90 has proven to be so far, but I will remedy that with hot loads!!

The new duplex load, couple with the serrate buttpad and the fact that I only have ~1/2 the buttpad on my shoulder due to poor sight alignment, left my shoulder bruised and bleeding!

I figure that if I can fire off at least 100 rounds a week of this new 50 Beowulf load and these heavy 45-90 loads (with that crescent steel buttplate) and keep it up till it doesn;t hurt anymore, I wll be ready for the 458 Win mag.

No more wimpy guns for me, from now on I am a big bore man.
