John SCanuck-
Thanks for posting these up! I can't take any credit for the design but I can assure evryone that it works very well!
BTW, it is attached to one of the reasons I own it!

450 Dakota, weighs 10 pounds all up. That's a 3x Leupold mounted there in Talley rings. It's just back from the factory for repairs after a suffering life of being attached to various big bores, ie 500 A-Square, 450 Dakota, 458 Lott, 475 A&M.

HolmesNow why haven't I thought of that?!
A grand idea. I shall be making a similar set up very soon.
Thanks John S. and Canuck.

Mike375John,
You will pleased to know that when you come down to Australia for some "body count" shooting we can provide you with various recoil reducing devices.
That is a real nice gun that needs to kill a lot more things

WachtelLooks good, must try to rig something similar for load development on the new 375! Maybe a version wich can be filled with sand, shot or whatever is avaiable so I can also take it with me on the coming trip to Oz.
Definitely have to make one of these up for me and my friends .416 rigby's excellent idea. Nice looking rifle to, what are the ballistics for the .450 dakata???

John SThe bag has an inner compartment, just lift the flap. A 25# bag of shot fits perfectly. Ballistics of the 450 with factory loading is a 500gr bullet @ 2450fps. It can be loaded up or down from that level.

Mike375PC,
The 450 Dakota is essentially an Improved 416 Rigby necked up to 458. That is, a 460 Weatherby without the belt.

CraftsmanJohn
I knew the idea sounded good. After seeing the picture I'll have to repeat what Holmes said, now why haven't I thought of that?
I'm going to make one up for myself.

John SI've had several folks asking about this great little "helper", so I am posting to it to bring it to top.

AtkinsonIn the recoil department, I recently purchased a International rest that hooks to the front of the bench and straps the gun down...I shot a 460 Wby about 40 times off it the other day and it recoiled less than a 243...They are expensive at $400 but with my bursitis it sure helps me file in the iron sights on some big bores like the Lotts and 500's...At least I'm not fileing in a flinch anymore
