Owned a few 375 h&h's and a few 375 rugers. Shot my very first deer with the 375 h&h. I've gone through so many calibers from 17 to 458 and I always keep wanting to come back to the 375. It's about time I put another one in the stable and maybe this time I'll learn my lesson and keep it there.

I have a 375 H&H. Haven't used it in years but keeping it just for the memories.

I have a Montana 1999 with a 20" bbl. Damn thing weighs a ton and then some but it's short and incredibly handy. I gotta get rid of that laminate stock and get something a lot lighter. It's about 9.5# empty...

All in all, I just can't quote see needing more gun for a goooood long while.

Left hand Mathieu 375 H&H

I've owned a 1917 Enfield (Winchester) in .375 H&H.....a Remington M-700 in .375 H&H, a whitworth .375 H&H and now a Winchester M-70 in .375 H&H.....

It seems I'm destined to have one whether I use it or not.....it's a fine round but mostly serious overkill for my usual uses.

At one time I owned 5 but am down to a mere 3 now. I traded my No.1 and Heym 88B. Wish I had the Heym back ,of course. I used one on each of my 8 safari's and just don't think I could go to Africa without one. Have shot everything from Duiker to Elephant with one. Currently have a SS Mdl 70 classic with custom laminated stock,a Mdl98 with a Westley Richards SSB that was originally a 318 Accellerated and a Zkk 602 that was Jon Speeds last rifle he used as a game warden. Those 3 I shall probably keep forever. The ZKK 602 I shot my first game animal in Africa with so it has special meaning. I stocked both the Mdl 70 and the Mdl 98 and they have special meaning also. Just plain like the 375H&H as an all round rifle. Accurate,not un-pleasant to shoot good on any game out to 300 yards (which is about my limit) easy to load for. Cannot think of a single fault they have.

as a strange aside, Holland and Holland originally built the 375 for all classes of game which is why the built it with three bullet weights.

You are confused? There is no such thing as "overkill."
There's all kinds of "underkill."
Using this .416/245-grain GSC HV for elephant hunting with a .416 Aagaard rifle is just one good example:

Such things are measured on internet forums just to and are largely based on individual preferences/prejudices and really amount to nothing more than

The beauty of living and hunting in America at least, is that a hunter can, depending on the location they are hunting can use anything from a .22 Hornet all the way up to a .600 Overkill or .50 BMG, it is purely an individual choice.

I have personally killed white tails with a .22 Hornet and a .458 Win Mag and all kinds of stuff in between. I simply do not buy into the under-kill/over-kill

If a bullet regardless of diameter is accurately placed into an animals vitals, the results are a dead animal, and in hunting that seems to be the goal.

I've got 3 375 H&Hs. Well, actually I have one and each of my boys have one now.

It's a great weapon for kids and women who haven't become accustomed to proper big bore rifles to use on a dangerous game hunt!

I actually prefer the 416 Rigby for an all-round performer but lately have been taking along my double in 9.3x74R as a "light" rifle. Scoped, it has performed well out to 200 yards.

Yes, that really makes a lot of sense, since the discussion is about who owns a .375 caliber rifle and what flavor.

Over-kill/Under-kill/BB Guns for Rhino, really don't have anything to do with the topic.

If someone likes any of the .375 cartridges and enjoys using them to hunt Sod Poodles, it is their prerogative to do so and more power to them.

Thank God we live in a country where a person can pick and choose whatever caliber of rifle they desire to use.

Seems like too many folks have lost the concept that gun ownership and usage is fun and that no one caliber/cartridge is the be all end all for everyone.

Too many folks seem to be hung up with some kind of Testosterone High, and ANYONE that does not use the same caliber they do, should have their Man Card revoked.

No wonder so many folks leave these sites or simply quit posting on them. A simple poll inquiring about who owns a .375 caliber rifle, nothing mentioned about whether folks thought it was the greatest cartridge/caliber ever invented, just if a person owned one.

Now it has wandered off into being overkill for some animals/under-kill for other animals, and only suitable for women and children, Not A Gun For A REAL Man.

was bagging a trophy hoary marmot/rock chuck/whistle pig with a .458 WinMag, same one I used to flatten a moose with one shot.
Same varmint bullet for both too: 500-grain Hornady RNSP
I am scouting for a trophy groundhog/woodchuck with a 500 Mbogo now.

I am now going to call the sporter-weight .408 Chey-Tac walk-about rifle the "400 Goodkill."

Excellent Im going to try my 460 on rabbits as well should be a similar result to your 500 on woodchucks

I've stopped a few Jack Rabbit charges with a 458WM. Damn glad I had it in my hands at the time. No telling what kind of mayhem those chargun bunnies had on their mind at the time. But like RIP, a 500gr soft point settled their account rather abruptly!!

I'm not so sure a ladies gun could have pulled that off!!

Entry just inside the the left arm, with the exit shown in the picture several posts above. 201 yards, which is just about 'zero' when sighted in 2" high at 100 with the 416Rigby.

Coming back to the thread--this 416Rigby is quite similar to the 375-404Jeff in huntability: trajectory and practical power.
