OldcoyoteScope Mounting - Montana Action
I am building a .375 Weatherby on a Montana barreled action. I purchased 2-piece Talley steel mounts and screwlock QD rings. I took a Leupold 2.5 X 8 VX3 off another rifle and my gunsmith found the mount ring spacing on this scope was not long enough for this setup. It seems to be almost 1/2 inch too short.
Has anyone successfully mounted a scope of about this power on this action? I would rather get another scope than have offset mounts hanging over the loading port.
Any recommendations will be appreciated.

RaySenderoWell.....My first thought was to switch to Weaver extention mounts and their quad rings but this may as you said hang over the receiver.
Second thought - I pic would help!

boltmanI used a leupold 1.75x6E on my M70 375 H&H in talley mounts. I can see where the 2.5x8 would be too short, it's a pretty compact scope. I have two on short action M70's but wouldn't put one on a long action.

Thank you. Leupold no longer lists the E model but the VX III 1.75 X 6 shows max ring spacing of 5.4 vs 5.1 for the 2 1/2 X 8. Maybe not enough.

dempseyI put a varix3 on mine, close but it fit and works for me . Is the VX3 shorter?

dempseyNow that I think about it more I think my smith had to alter one of the bases to fit.........

OldcoyoteIf I use the 1.75 X 6 I would gain .3 of an inch. If that doesn't work, Talley makes a base with 1/4 inch extension which wouldn't be a big change. The 1/2 inch extension is the one I am leery of.

clowdisWould a one piece base like those from Ken Farrell suit your needs? It would certainly give you the spacing you need for the rings.
