I'm thinking about having a 10,75x68 bulidt on a Brno action (M21).
It will be a carrying rifle to use in partially dense forrest. Therefore I would like to keep the gun as compact as possible, and the only way for me to do this, is by chopping the barrel.
So, here's the question:
What is the shortest functional barrel- length in this calibre, without loosing to much velocity?
Using a barrel longer than 24in./ 60cm, is not an option for me

I believe Jeffe has said he will be using a 23 incher. You might be able to get away with 20".

Depends on how much velocity loss is acceptable to you. Also what weight bullet and rate of twist. They all combine in factoring barrel length. NorthFork makes a 380gr that is of particular interest to me. Your requirements may vary.

I'm going for a 23" barrel for my 458Win to retain velocity yet keep it compact enough for hunting heavy cover.

When it comes to bulletweights, and -lenghts, I will probably be shooting 347-350 grain bullets, but it would be kind of cool to explore the effects of 400 grains as well.
My hope is that it would be possible to reach 2100 fps with a 400 grainer from a barrel of 20-22 inches.
If anyone has experience with shorter barrels in this caliber when it comes to velcity I would really appreciate it if they could share them.

Swift, Ref my post 10.75x68 on this forum. I have done some testing with a 24in bbl and 400gr bullets. 2100fps from a 20in bbl, staying below 60K psi should prove interesting. Bob

I'm not sure how your powders translates into the ones we have access to here in Norway (mainly NORMA and Vihtavuori), but I will do some carefull development if I ever get my rifle buildt
I might start out with a 24 incher and see how that goes. Its always easier to chop a barrel later, than it is to make it longer.
