A gas check on a cast bullet is basically a brass or a copper cup that is crimped on the base of the bullet. The lip of the gas check when crimped in place in about a grease groove high. Gas checks are used when conventional designs cause excess leading or are just inaccurate in that particular firearm. Shooting cast bullets can be a pain in the ass while trying to find that right load. Once you find that right load, you'll find that it'll shoot just as well as any jacketed round you have.

That takes care of the gas question.

Andre,
I shoot that bullet, or one close to it, alot. GC's and all. I've gotten up to 2300 but leaded alot...

2000fps, and it should be fine, if hard.

gc also help prevent the base from melting and the melt/gas from plating your barrel.
