read about this in an old 'cart of the world' book. sounded like fun. haven't heard many people talk about it though.

Since you can fit a .470 Mbogo into that action, that's what I voted for.

I can't see using that size action for anything smaller than a 416 Rigby based round. The 450 Rigby might be more practicle due to bullet selection, but 470 M-bogo sounds more fun.

I need to know more about the bigger cartridges, can somebody give me a rundown on them? partent case, bullet weights common for loadings etc.

I immediately disqualify anything offered in a factory rifle, I see no reason to build a custom or semi-custom when you can get it from a factory. Where is the "cool" factor dude? :-) So go with one of the bigguns that are not common, the 470M'Bogo might be the way. A 423 Van Horn would work, but not utilize the full potential of that action. Cost is a major factor in opening them up (enfields) so if you are doing everything yourself might as well ya know.

Maybe you could make this like that Todd TV show, where everybody votes on everything. (aside from the things you will have to pay for of course, like don't let us vote you into a Krieger when you were going to get a Douglas). That would be a blast! Damn I wished I had the skills and equipment to do something like that.

Or course I have a 1917 Rem. in 35 whelen AI, so there is what many would consider a waste too, but it shoots great so no reason to change it, can always make it a 35Ultra Somethin' or other later. ("Or....hmmm...let's see, take the barrel off and put on something else, send action to Tom Burgess plus paychecks for next 6 months and get Ultimate Enfield. get caught by fiancee and beat to death with blunt object....")

I voted 470 mbogo but would think about 505 gibbs with custom 600 grain bullets.

The Rigby just has to much class, it has to be that Jeffo the .450 Rigby would be my second choice.

Well Jeffe, I was tempted to go with the Capstick, as I'm putting together a 475 Ackley Magnum, and would have loved to have someone else to help figure things out. However, looking at my own Enfield patch (once a few of them get together they seem to multiply like rabbits, I can't understand it, there's half a dozen of them now), I realised that even the 375 Wby I have in one of these looks too small (hmmm, 375-416 rigby improved wildcat you say?). So Rigby/378 based cases it is. And I do like the 475 bore. So help a fellow sufferer out here and go with the 470 Mbogo will you? Thanks, - Dan

Actually the 450 AHR is based upon a lengthened and necked down 500 Jeffery aka necked down 500 AHR. Jeff would not like that round since it uses Bertram brass.

Bob, how is your 500 AHR coming along?

I still think he should do the 338 Lapua and tell us all how he shoots at 1000 yards.

OK, now I am in the same boat! I have a CZ 550 Rigby length action I am planning on building a 475 Mbogo on. I went with the Mbogo over the Capstick because I have the Rigby length action and bolt face. I have to wonder if the 470 Capstick isn't a better round due to increased magazine capacity and more keeping with the velocities the bullets are designed for. I am thinking about building a companion rifle in 45 caliber. Are the 450 Rigby and Dakota both able to be formed using 416 Rigby cases? It looks that way in the books, does anyone have first hand knowledge of this?
