blackbearhunterRuger Stock grain Pic ?
Does this stock grain look/RUN just right for a big bore rifle? Also does it look like circassian walnut? It has a darker color than other circassian walnut stocks i have seen,,,,Has ruger ever made a rsm with american walnut?
Also does the pad look right thickness? The length of pull is 13inchs

475Guy1Doesn't look like circassian walnut to me and LOP is too short from factory specs. Is this a new rifle? Lately RSM's seem to have plainer stocks than a few years ago. IIRC, my RSM's had 13 3/4" LOP's.
Used to be 475Guy add about 2000 more posts

blackbearhunterI think this rifle was made in 2005.Its a short pull thats for sure,

OldcoyoteRuger's pads are hard as bricks. I have a Kickeez magnum on my RSM and it is 1 3/8 inches thick.
But if you take your calendar to the range and look at it with one eye, you won't feel the recoil.

IndlovuThe grain is straight, it will be strong. but i think the stock is clumsy and overbuilt, like all rugr rifle products. it is very difficult to differentiate between different types of walnut, especially in the lower grade wood used for commercial manufacture. This is a typical high volume US manuf stock. Wont break, but THATS IT!

blackbearhunterI have only seen a couple of really nice ruger circassian walnut stocks with great figure ,most all looked plain to me too. This one allmost looks like laminated wood but at least it should be strong.I wonder if it will get lots darker with time?

I have decided to have the pad changed for a pachmayr, the factory pads are hard as rocks!

JefferyDenmarkGentlemen
Interesting thread.
Here are some pictures of a .416 Rigby Ruger along with a Krieghoff .470 NE. These rifles belong to a friend of mine.
The Ruger Magnum rifle is a factory custom rifle by Ruger.
The Ruger rifle was broken in half on its way back from Zim maybe by airport staff!!! It is dead for sure, what a shame RIP.
Enjoy the pictures.

WEll not really, the stock was broken under transportation between Zim and Frankfurt.
What a waste.

AtkinsonBlackbearhunter,
Your rifle is probably a sort of Circassion or at least European walnut. At any rate it is about a perfect lay out for a big bore rifle. It should be very strong indeed.
I would add crossbolts, and glassbed the action and barrel channal, or at least the action and thats good advise IMO on any bigbore rifle that will actually see service in the hunting fields.
