500grainsThere is a professional hunter in Zimbabwe who carries a 4 bore as his personal rifle on elephant hunts. I can't remember his name, but he must be a brute of a fellow.

<eldeguello>Shultz&larsen, there is/was a 2-bore also. Sir Samuel "Pasha" Baker used one, but I am sure it was a muzzleloader. It fired mercury-hardened lead balls and exploding bullets both!! His Arab associates called it "Son of a Cannon", and Sir Samuel stated that firing it gave him a headache and nosebleed! And he was ONE GREAT BIG OL' BOY!!

Shultz&larsenOh boy. That must have been something. thank you buddies. When I hold the 4 Bore I didt know what to tink. The 600 was like a litle varmint. What is the 2 Bore like then. does he describe it in his books?

mehulkamdarHolland and Holland made a 4 bore as a special project some years ago and if my information is right, Joseph Hambrusch of Austria offer 4 bore rifles in their catalogue. A slightly smaller 10 bore rifle was made by John Rigby with assistance from hambrusch some years ago, but Rigby no longer offer it on their website. If I can turn up any more info, I'll send it across to you.
Good shooting!

HenryC470I have heard there are some films or videos around of 2- and 4-bore rifles being shot. Anyone know of copies on the web?

OldsargeBaker's 2-bore was indeed a muzzle loader. Not only did it give him a headache and bloody nose each time he shot it but in later life that recoil resulted in his being so punchdrunk that he was little more than an ambulatory vegetable who had to be led around by the hand. And eldeguello is right. He was one fine broth of a boy!
