Ok guys help me out here. The 458 shoots great. Better than I will at any rate. My problem is it dosnt consistantly eject the last round. Sometimes it just lays there after extraction. It comes off the extractor just fine but dosnt kick out. It dosnt matter if the rounds are factory new or handloads. It also dosnt always do it. The spring on the ejector looks fine. Any ideas?

Change the ejector?? Also the extractor may not be engaged in the rim correctly??

TS is right, I think. Check your ejector length. It doesn't sound like it's right. - Dan

Thanks guys. Im going to try that. I dont know what else to do. This has been driving me crazy, especially since it is not happenening all the time.

I went back and looked at the ejector and it looks to be as long as possible without further mdoification to the rifle. Any more ideas?

Has the extractor claw been ground too much(to let it snap over a chamberd round)? [Big Grin]

Take the bolt out of your rifle and examine the extractor claw. It should have a gentle S shape so that when the cartridge slips under the extractor claw it will push the extactor out approximately .025 to .035 then slide into the pocket of the S shape with a nice snap sound. You should be able to pick the bolt up and hold it at any angle and the extractor not turn it loose.

Going by your rifle's symptoms it sounds like the extractor has been opened up too much and now the claw of the extractor is not holding the cartridge firmly so the ejector can get a good whack on the cartridge and hinge it around the claw of the extractor.
