MingbogoCut rifling versus button rifling
I understand how they make these two types of rifling but I would like to know if there is a clear performance advantage between the two. Give me some real world experience if you could. Thanks for any info. Cheers! Ming

Bill LeeperI don't think there is any clear cut advantage to one type over the other. Buttoned barrels may be a little more consistent assuming equal quality. Buttoning can also conceal, but not correct, a substandard reaming job. My most accurate rifles to date have been button rifled barrels (Hart and Shilen). My most accurate hunting rifles have had cut rifled barrels. I feel that a good cut rifled barrel is a little more of an example of art in machining while buttoning is an example of technology at work. In other words the main difference is one of perception. <Mitch>Ditto what Bill said. An accurate rifle can have either type of barrel.

MingbogoThanks guys for the info. Now I feel a little more comfortable getting a Shilen barrel. Cheers! Ming
