Ruger catalogs No. 1 in .405
I just obtained a copy of the 2003 Ruger catalog, and the .405 "Winchester Magnum" is indeed among the offerings in the Ruger No. 1. It will be available in blued and stainless 1B configuration with a 24 inch barrel. And by the way, the catalog does indeed show a Single Six revolver in .17 HMR, just as the rumors have had it.
Bet Ruger sells some .405s! I know I would sure love to have one.

That is good news, as they will make a fine basis for rechambering to 450/400NE 3". I think you missread the catalog, however, because the .405 Winchester is NOT A MAGNUM! [Confused]

Mac: No I didn't misread it. That is why I put ".405 Winchester Magnum" in quotes, as that is how it is listed by Ruger. Made me wonder if there is some sort of plus-P version of the .405 in the works from Hornady or something. Maybe we will learn more after the SHOT show, or maybe Ruger just went a bit overboard with the hyperbole.

Lets hope that it DOES come out in 2003, not like normal Ruger production its announced and then comes out 18 months later.

When are they going to do the #1 (or 77 Safari) in .404 Jeffery?????????

That would make this a merrier Christmas for at least ME.

Oh man Frank, I totally agree with you. I passed on a #1 in 404 Jeff about 3 yrs ago at a gun shop. I am not going to tell you how much it was 'cause every big-bore lover on this forum would hop a plane to Oklahoma to kick my ass!! I will buy one in 405, for that reason.

I'll buy one for two reasons, #1 is it is a simple re-chambering job to turn it into a 450/400NE 3", and #2 because I love Ruger No1s, and a stainless one in 450/400NE 3" would be the nuts for the wet costal weather in Alaska's brown bear country!

Anybody know what the twist will be, or if it will handle 400 gr bullets? [Confused]
