In a recent post re; double rifle vs. magazine rifle, resulted in some interresting views, this timing couldn't be better.....

One of our ocasional posters and his party recently returned from a hunt he and his brother and friend booked with me in Tanzania..PH Ron Van Heerden guided them. Ron was a problem animal control officer for Zimbabwe Parks and wildlife for years..he is right at 1000 elephants..and lord knows how many Buffalo...

My clients brother closed on a nice bull and took the shot and the Buffalo turned and charged on the spot...Rons 470 barked twice, the first shot hit the eye and failed, absolutely no effect, the second shot dropped the buffalo at their feet...Client said he didn't have time to work the bolt before it was over..Ron agreed it was a bit sticky there for a moment..My client said Ron is the coolest head he has ever seen....

this is when a double rifle is worth twice the price....

Ron shoots a Holland and Holland Deluxe that he bought for $500. when they were wall hangers and ammo was not available...He has a number of nice doubles...

Ray how about some details on what the client's brother was shooting? Ought to be worth an argument or two on proper buff rifles:-)

Client was shooting a 416 Rigby but the Buff was turning just as he made the shot, I understand...These things happen and when they do the chips will fall, the wheels fall off and Monday morning quarter backing goes south....Poop happens!!
