Minni Ball bullet backwards in 585 nyati
I am thinking of loading a hollow base minnie ball (intended for a black powder rifle) backwards in my 585 nyati to have a giant hollow point bullet for 50 yard use.

What do you think?

Sized properly, I don't see why it wouldn't work, but doubt that it would feed? Keep in mind though, that the purpose of that skirt was to expand against the walls of the barrel to seal the combustion gases behind the bullet, so you might get some "blow-by"....

Are you going to load it with black powder? These bullets are pure lead, so are not up to being stressed too much by violent acceleration. But they should upset enough to seal your bore.

You'd be better off with a .586 lead ball. I tried some and very very impressive. I load em real light for the close-in ground squirrels with the Nyati.-Rob

I am going to use smokeless.

Rob, can you suggest any starting points with a ball? Do you use xmr5744?

500 gr,

woodeligh make a 650 blackpowder projectile that has a decreased reccomended impact velocity over there regular 650. If your looking for a splash effect I reckon that projectile might be alright.

Have you blokes thought of having a jig made up that would thin jackets and turn round nose woodleighs into flat points.

And what about paper patching as that is supposed to allow plus on 2000 with pure lead.

I wager that they are too soft & will slip & not engauge the rifling just slide through it.
