Ruger #1 416 Rem Mag
I have the opportunity to buy a used 416 Rem Mag Ruger #1 Tropical from the local gun store for $475. What are your opinions on the price, caliber and gun? I am aware of the accuracy issue with #1's. The gun looks like it has never been fired (VERY clean). Also, the store has a box of 100 pcs of brass for an additional $40.

I just wanted to get some opinions.

That's a good price. The gun is a bit light for a .416 Rem., but adding a Pachmayr Decelerator (or similar) pad will help a lot.

Start out with light bullets (300-350gr.) and work up to full-power 400gr. loads.

I think the price is right. I have one in 458, recoil is not that bad and would imagine the 416 would be the same. I have never shot it much but it is accurate with both jacketed and cast bullets. They are fun to play with but I myself want more than 1 shot in a DGR. One of these days mine will be sitting in a gun shop for sale also.
