Teat HoundH-S Precision PHR in 375 H&H? Opinions Please
Does anyone have experience with any H-S PHR's in 375H&H (or larger calibers)? I'm looking for opinions/likes/dislikes.
This rifle would be used mainly in Alaska for bears, but a maybe Buffalo hunt in Zim too.
Yes, I know it does not have CRF
Thanks in advance for any responses . . .
It would be a quality made piece of equipement I would think.....but when I think HS I think long range tactical type guns and varmint guns....I did not even know they made hunting rifles.

500grainsDoesn't Mike 375 who posts here advocate the HS Precision rifle? I have not given them serious consideration because of the action that the rifle is built around.

Mike378HS Precision is tops if function and acccuracy is the goal.
But they are very plain looking rifle for the money. But you can buy either just the action or a barreled action and any stock that fits a Rem 700 will fit.
They have in line feed magazine and the receiver is essentially a Rem 700. The bolt is different as they do not have the bolt nose protruding beyond the lugs and have an Sako/ AR 15 type extractor. Altough they are Rem 700 diamter bolt they can be had in the Rigby/378 case head calibres because the locking lugs are in effect forming some of the bolt face surround on the counterbore.
I know I stand alone but I regard them not being CRF as an advantage.

But having said that I think if someone is predisposed to having CRF then they good CRF.
Personally, I would not get a 375 H&H in an expensive rifle that was push feed, such as the HS Precision. But that is because I like to match calibres and rifles. A 375 Ultra, yes.

Hendershots Sporting Goods in Hancock Maryland has an H&S 375 RUM in takedown for sale with scope and extra clips. They are usually one holers and very handy in the takedown variety.

WoodjackIf you consider a take down HS rifle, their take down thread work is rather average. I believe they used to do the takedown work for the winchester custom shop. Saw a t/d synthetic M70 at SCI show, rough. But I cannot comment about their other work.

tradewindsI have two a Sporter in 30/06 and PHR in 300RUM and they have become my favorite rifles. I was going to order a 375 RUM and I was told the HS will have a CRF gun next year, just for the SCI crowd. The Gunsmith I use is a Dealer and saw the action while at the factory. No word on price or dates.
I did notice a ad in SCI Magazine for a "Big Game Model" It is just the PHR with open sights.

tradewindsBy the way, my friend the gunsmith ordered on in 416 Rigby for a customer. He loves the gun and has taken on several Dangerous Game Hunts and is taking it Elephant Hunting this year.

Well, that is great news to me. Maybe I'll just wait to see what they look like before I decide. It would be nice to see one in Reno in a few months . . .
Thanks for the update.
