Scope for .375?

Just wondering what you all would recomend for a .375 H&H M70. I have a Burris Ballistic-plex 3-9x on my .300 and have been very happy with it's performance.

However, I'm concerned with extended use the recoil might effect a regular scope. Therefore I've been looking at the Burris Posi-lock scopes.

I'll be using the rifle for elk, probably hunting in Alaska next year and hopefully someday in Africa for plainsgame.

I've got a Leupold vari-XIII 1.75x6Ex32 heavy duplex on my M70 .375 H&H. It's the second one I've had on a .375 and I think it's about perfect for the round. I couldn't tell you about the burris posi-lock, I'm a Leupold fan, they're all that goes on my rifles.

I have a 2.5x Leupold on my .416 m70 but might recommend a 1-4 Vari-X II or a 1.5-5 Vari XIII for the .375 as a better all-around scope. Check out premier reticles web-site and get it how you want it for a helluva deal (especially the 1-4x).

I have been using the Leupold 2.5-8 on my two 375/404 for a number of years. They work great. Never had any problems with them at all.

I too have a Leupold 2.5-8 on my 375. I think it is about the perfect scope for a 375 that is used for an all around rifle. It provides a good field of view up close and still allows for good magnification for longer shots. And, it still is a fairly compact package, IMHO.

The recoil is more likely to rattle the lenses loose than affect the reticle adjustments.

I have several Burris scopes and they are a great value. A Burris Signature 2x-8x is about perfect for an all-around .375.

My own .375H&Hs both wear Leupold 2.5x-8x scopes. They laugh at recoil!

I bought the Burris fullfield 2-7 and the reticle broke after the 20th round, thought I mounted it too close the front ring and shipped it to Burris for repair, they stated it was not my fault & promised to fix it for free. only small problem is that they received the scope 10 august..3 mounths and counting no scope yet.
Wish I got a Leupold instead.

I have a Swarovski 1.5x6x42mm on my .375 and I love it. This range of magnification, whatever the brand scope you use, seems to be made for the .375......makes it a very versatile rifle.

I like a scope with a 20mm objective on a hunting rifle...Leupold 3x, 1x4, 1.5x5 are the ones I use.....they are just tougher and maintain zero better with hard use.

Mine wears a Leupold Vari-X IIc 2-7X. It's a bit more compact than the excellent 2.5-8, somewhat less expensive, wide field of view, and some say that the II series holds up under recoil better than the III series, although I can't verify this.

My current 375 wears a Leupold 1.5-5x, which I dislike tremendously for it's lack of light gathering. I intend to replace it with their 1.75x6E model which is a far better scope, IMO. I have a Swaro PH in that power on my 338/404 and it is marvelous as well.

Mine wears a Leica 1.75x6 42mm. It has never had a problem. The light gathering with this scope is great. After I have given up staying on stand, as no more shooting light, I look through the scope and could put horns on a white tail. I understand the Leupold is the same scope. I think Leica is out of the rifle scope business. Go with the Leupold. Their warantee is second to none. Good hunting. "D"

My .375 is currently topped by a 3x Leupold. I used it on a bison hunt last year and it worked real well.

I am considering changing to a variable though, as I think it might help in discerning game in the brush. Any opinions on wether increased magnification will help noticably in this situation?

Well. it's still sitting in the box, next to the rifle, but I've got a Leupold Vari-XIII 2.5-8X matte scope to mount on my Winchester Super Express 375H&H.

I chose that scope due to the fact that I have the same model on my 416 Taylor. Except that one's silver, since my Taylor is stainless.

Just trying to "keep it simple".

I`ll go with Stonecreek. The Leupold Vari-X IIc 2-7X in my opinion is about the best you can put on a .375. Fine optics, compact, great eye relief, the magnification covers all needs, and as GeorgeS said: "They laugh at recoil! "

I have a Leupold Vari X III 2.5-8 matte scope on my .375 A.I. I have never had a problem with any LEUPOLD product. I am sure the expensive German scopes are fantastic also. I just haven't stepped up to the plate yet!

I'm doing a "product evaluation test" with my .375 as it is topped by a 3x9 "Tasco".

Actually, it was the only scope my gunsmith had on hand and could mount for me a the very last minute before an out of state hunt. I did manage to bring down an elk at 400+ yards with this scope.

Believe it or not, the scope is still sound after about 200 rounds!

Now that the same rifle transmuted into a .375 RUM I firmly expect it to fall apart within the next 50 or so shots (it has withstood 30 already).

That's way better than my high end european scope on my 7mm RUM (another story I'll post another day) that fell apart after 3 shots!

All of my other rifles proudly wear Leupolds however.

Eventually the Tasco will be replaced with a 4.5x14 Leupold, as I prefer that magnification for those longer shots.

Bigger is better is certainly the American way these days, particularly in scopes, you guys have bought the hype...More power to you their your dollars..

I still like the 3x Leupold, 1x4 Leupold, and the 1.5x5 Leupolds that have served me well for many years, and believe it or not I can see an elephant or a duiker in it at 1000 yds.....

For anyone to say a 1.5x5 Leupold is junk and has no light gathering abilities is just absurb, I was looking at a barb wire fence a couple of hundred yards out in my pasture last night at near dark and I could see the barbs!!..someone better adjust the eyepiece.

I have a 2 1/2 Leupold (which took a search) on my 416 and a 30mm 1.5x6x42 on my 375.

You can never go wrong listening to the guys that have been there done that, like Ray, Saeed, etc. I like all the low powered Vari X III scopes.

Whatever you use use quick release mounts for the iron sights. Sometimes they are the only option.
