<pigman>copper fouling
How clean should a rifle barrel be? Is it alright to see trace amounts of copper in the rifling after cleaning? Will this hurt anything? If it does is there any way to get all of it out? I used Burchwood Casy 2 n 1 solvent. The barrel looks clean and shiny except for a small amount of copper in the rifleing.

Hi pigman,
You should try to get all the copper traces out. If your having a problem try some Wipe-Out. It will take all the copper out just follow the directions. For your first cleaning leave it in longer than the ten or fifteen minutes. That duration of time is once the firearm is totally clean of all taces. There is a link on my site under the links page.

RobgunbuilderUse JB paste followed by wipe-out and get as much of the copper out as possible . It does nothing to aid accuracy and is easy to remove.-Rob

AtkinsonI don't think a barrel needs to be squeeky clean, after all you have to shoot fouling shots before they settle down and if they had to be all that clean then you would have to clean them with Wipe out between each shot??? Just my opinnion but I think more rifles are ruined by cleaning rods than bullets...
