Don't worry about it. Every forum needs a village idiot. [Razz]

PS Axel, I think actually a .405 Winchester and a SMLE is not a bad project IF everything is simple and low cost. Wouldn't waste much monmey on a SMLE and wouldn't waste a lot of money on a .405 either. Both seem pretty average to me.

But the SMLE is a rugged no-nonsense ex-mil bolt action and if a .405 works well in one, it would make an unusual big bore with a big magazine capacity.

Not that it males much difference to your "projects" anyway.

Well, I would rather suggest to rebarrel a Mauser 98 action (or, for true snobs, a classic 1888 sporter) for the 10.75x57, the predecessor of the .400 Whelen (my own silly pet project [Big Grin] ). Both cartridges are about equal in performance, and the latter is easier to reform from existing brass.

Axel- I hear your gonna weld two SMLE's together to build a AXELized version of a Fuching double! Bet it blows your head off! Sie sind an asel!-SS

Anyone with any brains would know the best thing to do with SMLE's is cut the barrels into tent pegs, burn the stocks and use the actions for door stops. But was there ever any doubt AXEL was a "no-nothing?" I don't think so. [Smile]

Being disrespectful of the SMLE is blasphemy! [Mad]

More Canadian moose, bears, deer and elk have been dropped with the SMLE than anything else! [Wink]

It's truly a wonderful rifle. Every Canadian owns at least one. I have 3.

My favorite is my #5 Jungle Carbine. Small groups, short, light and handy...

The SMLE has been chambered in the 45-70, I don't know about the .405.

Gates, I'll second that. Isn't there a law or something that you have to own an SMLE to be Canadian? [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Aye, but c'mon ! That was at a time when they still made the legendary 215 grains RN SP factory ammo, sadly discontinued for many years. Who was Canada's head of state at that time ? George V. ?

There is a phrase among rifle shooters I know.
A Springfield is a target rifle
A Mauser is a hunting rifle
A Lee Enfield is a battle rifle

It all depends on what you really want

The old SMLE has probably killed more African game than any other rifle as well. That would include elephants as well I assume.
