N E 450 No2Test firing two 470 double rifles
Just got back from the range helping 2 buddies I met at the Dallas Safari Show test fire a couple of 470 Double rifles. Both have been to Africa before and are returning on a DG hunt. All firing was done at 25 yards with Federal ammo. One fella was testing a Chapuis 470.It shot very well for me right and left bbls almost touching when fired offhand at 25 yards. The same as the 2 other 470 Chapuis I have shot.
The other rifle was a 470 Evans with 28" barrels. It is in excellent condition with a very pretty stock and very nice engraving. This rifle handles, and balances very well. This rifle also shot very well. I shot 500gr Woodleigh Softs, 500gr Trophy Bonded Bearclaws, and 500 gr Sledgehammer Solids. I have never seen a William Evans rifle I did not like.
Two nice guys with 2 nice doubles.
We also shot a 500 Jeffery Bolt rifle which I will report on in a seperate post.

AtkinsonI have also liked the Evans rifles, Every one I have shot and that more than a few always performed well, as do the Army Navy guns....
Never cared much for a Chapuis, they must fall apart after some use because a lot of folks email with problems they have had with them and a few came to me to get them fixed, I sent them to Chapius...I have not owned or shot one, just passing on what my little experience has been... A well known Smith told me they were pretty junky in his opinnion, don't know, but I would trust his judgment...
