.400 H&H and .465 H&H drawings and ammo
I talked to Wolfgang Romey at WR Ammunition this morning (my time). He reports that CIP drawings and ammunition for the .400 H&H and .465 H&H are available.

Jim already knows this, but I have 400 H&H reamers ordered (ordered them 2 weeks ago), a finish chamber reamer and a resize die reamer. Should have them next week. This will allow me to both chamber barrels and make case forming and reloading dies.

I also ordered a 400 barrel from Krieger in early January. For the 400 H&H, bore size is 0.403" and groove diameter is 0.411". .411" bullets made by Woodleigh.

We do not need to start the "Why a 400 H&H" debate again, but for those interested, I will be running pressure and velocity tests during the load development.

I am planning on about a 9 pound rifle, 24 inch barrel, NECG Masterpiece banded front sight, and either a Masterpiece rear barrel mounted sight or a aperture ghost ring type sight. Stock will be configured for the use of iron sights. Might consider a scope in detachable mounts.

The action? Sort of up in the air. I have numerous Mausers, several new Mark X's, several Pre 64 M70's, and have even considered a M99 MRC action.

I am open to suggestions for the rifle construction.

John,

Mr. Romey also told me that the staffers shooting the rifles report that the .400 H&H "shoots like" a .375 H&H, while the .465 H&H "shoots like" a .458 Lott, .450 Dakota or .450 Rigby.

I would think your rifle description sounds like an excellent plan.
