500grains,
As a righty, you can always just buy what you want. As a lefty, I have to work at it.

At some point, I'll winnow down the collection and piss the proceeds away on more hunting.

ScottSGeorge,
I know you are ignoring me, but I must concur with your last post.
Since you are the moderator, is there nothing you can do to stop this childish namecalling, before it gets completely out of hand?

LongShotRXGeorge, have you considered any of the metal coatings out there? Falconcoat, Gunite, Titanium Nitride, or the varios Robar finishes all would be at home in Africa I would think. Titanuim Nitride can be made to be look very similar to blueing.

Have you considered a scope for this gun? A low powerd scope could be nifty
Why the 458 winny?, there are funnier rounds out there.

GeorgeSHi Johan,
Yes, I will mount a scope on this rifle (hence the Talley bases, which will accommodate both a scope and a peep sight).
I have several candidate scopes: Burris 1.5x, Burris 1.75x-5x (for range work), Burris 2.5x, Leupold 2.5x. Once the gun is built, I'll see which one gives me the best sight picture when the gun is mounted quickly.
As to why a .458WM, I do have the .470 Capstick for the really big stuff like buff, hippo, and elephant, so I thought something a bit smaller would be fun to play with. The plentiful supply of light (300gr.-400gr.) bullets allows for
lots of relatively inexpensive practice while still keeping me acclimated to big bore recoil, too.

<JOHAN>Hello GeorgeS
This will be an really nifty rifle. The 458 is not completely impotent soo I guess it would work fine. Please post pictures when it's completed. I have to remember a droll rag by the computer
Sounds like all you need is some nice animals and a patch of bushland

Cheers
