Your favorite fun Big Bore shooting drill
I just went to the big bore shoot in Hamilton Mt. run by Dan416. It was a lot of fun and some great practise for shooting and reloading drills.
I got so motivated that I am now going to set up and run a similar shoot for our local club.
I would like to know what kinds of stages you have shot that were challenging, simple to set up and FUN!
My basic scenario will be nothing over 50yds (maybe one looong shot), mostly reaction targets like water jugs since it is easy (and fast) to judge hits and is fun to watch for the people waiting to shoot. Max of 2 rounds in any rifle with a reload from the belt on any 3-4 shot drills.
I would love to hear your ideas. thanks, JCS

clintsfollyI toke a old push lawnmower removed the motor and handle. Put a eyebolt in the front and mounted a target board both front and side. used the paper buff targets and had moving target. Used a rope sliding on a smooth stake for side to side travel and just pull for Charging shots! Ripped off and modified form Old bull Clint
What if you got an old self propelled model, removed the blade, started it and set it up on a block and engaged the motor.
Then run a rope from the block to behind the line, and have a buddy pull the block when you are on the line. I would think it would charge at you in a pretty erratic manner.
I am currently making a pullable cart that I can use for both crossing and charging shots.
I am hoping for a 1/2 to 3/4 size buff with the vitals being a quickly replaceable water jug.
We also did a timed drill with gallon jugs set out at 30/40/50 yards.
All good fun!

My next shoot will have a walk through course of some kind.

AtkinsonMy favorite is hunting Jack Rabbits with a big bore and shooting off hand. If not rabbits out then I walk along and shoot at smaller rocks. If one can shoot off hand then he is capable of taking any shot under most all conditions.

Cool, shooting rocks at our range could pose a problem but do you think you could send me a box of maybe 25 rabbits in time for an August shoot?

Ray,
Are Jack Rabbits any good to eat? We only have cottontails here in the South and they are tasty.

Dan416I killed some Jack Rabbits (snowshoes) near Wisdom, MT in January because my buddy at the time was from Michigan and was crazy about eating cottontails. We fried one and it tasted like a old tire. We stewed the next and it tasted like a new tire.

In that case I think I'll stick to cottontails.

Shot bunnies near Livingston and Bozeman, but never tried to eat a new tire.

PoppaWMy favorite drill is to load the 510 Wells and shoot it down range and still be hanging on to it after the shot. A couple or 3 quick ones and i'm tired out.
