I am not yet a reloader. Does anyone know where I might obtain "dummy rounds" (bullets but no powder) for .416 Rigby, .338 Win and .30/06. I intend to "fire" several shots at the TV buffalo etc. on Tracks across Africa!

Check out A-ZOOM snap caps, I know they make a 416 Rigby snap cap. I think they’ll run ya about $5.00 each? I’ve never used them, but they do advertise them as good for function testing.

The reason that snap caps are the preferred method is to protect the firing pin. They at least offer some resistance to the pin strike. A wise choice.

A-Zoom makes .338 WinMag and .30-06 snap caps too, and lots of others for rifle, handgun, and shotgun. Theirs are dummy/reproductions of a loaded cartridge made of anodized aluminum alloy with a snap cap built into the base of the dummy cartridge.

I had to get some A-Zoom snap caps for my .338 WinMag/20-guage Searcy/Ruger Red Label double rifle/shotgun.

They also make 470 NE snap caps for all of us Merkel lovers too.

I got all of mine off the shelf in Cabela's stores. Should be in the catalog or web site. Lyman carries A-Zoom too, last time I looked.

Superior Ammo -- I ordered a second set yesterday! You can pick the bullet you want to see how it feeds, which a snap cap will not tell you. It will cost about the same as loaded ammo.

You might try Brownells...they have a pretty complete line of dummy rounds to check feeding and functioning of different actions. If you are going to dry fire, I might suggest that in the dummy round you deprime it, then glue a small piece of pencil eraser in the primer pocket. Gives plenty of resistance to the firing pin, so there will be no harm in dry firing.

I called Brownells but they said don't use theirs for snap caps.

I called Superior as Charles suggested. They could make them up with dummy primers. Their prices were quite reasonable and I ordered them.

Hey I'm facing the same dilemna, I just checked on Brownell's website and they are chock full of different types of snap caps and aluminum chamber checkers. However they didn't have what I'm searching for, 2 full out dummies of each chambering, .500 Nitro, .577 Nitro, 8-bore, 4-bore. Any help much appreciated, getting ready to check with Superior right now about that.

And don't forget 155 mm self-propelled howitzer.
