Rigby has just announced that they will begin making a .275 Rigby High Velocity. It's based on the 7x57 Mauser with a 140 grain bullet at 3000 fps.
Actually, it is a 7x57 Mauser. Way to go in getting them to make it.

mbogo375Well, I would start with a general purpose double for dangerous game, say a Westley Richards 450/400 3" Nitro express.
linkNext I would add a medium caliber double for general use, say a Holland&Holland Dominion grade 375x2.5" Flanged Nitro Express regulated for a 320 grain bullet at 2000fps.
linkThen I would add a few heavy medium and light medium bolt actions, say a Jeffery in 375 H&H, a Rigby 350 Magnum, and a Holland&Holland in 375x2.5" Flanged Nitro Express.
linkOr I might substitute a really trim Jeffery Model 2 in 333 Jeffery for the 350 Rigby to gain extra portability plus greater penetration with the high sectional density 300 grain bullet.
linkOf course I would need a couple of "working rifles" to keep the crew supplied with meat. For that I would choose a C, Riggs Enfield and an Army&Navy Enfield, both in 303 caliber.
linkOn the chance that I might want to shoot a bit of plains game at extremely long range, I would add one of those newfangled hotshot Ross Model 1910's in 280 Ross.
linkWith this battery I would be well set for an extended safari of a couple of years. The only other addition that I might make would be a "stopper" double in 500 or 577 Nitro Express, but since I feel comfortable with the 450/400 I will probably leave this off until the next hunt. OldsargeWell of course a .375! But, lazy slug that I am, even in the '20's I'd be more likely to travel in a Dodge Power Wagon . . . with a trailer full of spare parts and tyres!

Savage99I would include a drilling in the battery. I find no other gun to be as flexible and useful.
The one I have is perfect for where I hunt. I would have to study what was available in the larger rifle cartridges then and what cartridge was loaded with good solids.
Birds are good to eat and there are snakes and self defense issues also. For all around a drilling is a formidable gun.
