The MetalsmithQuick question
Got to thinking and measuring the other day and need some input. Got one of them Remington made French Berthier, the 1907-15 model, and don't particularly like the 8mm Lebel chambering. Suppose if I was to change out the bottom metal and modify it into a box magazine and rebarrel the thing to a .450 Alaskan, think that would be feasible? I would like a 500 Alaskan (think that's what it's called) but dunno if that would be a good idea. Any input would be appreciated, thanks

GrandpasezThe bolt is .020" bigger than a lot of
others, and it will work for 50 Alaskan.
Or 50-110, and others similiar.I like to see
all the old metal resurrected, and in
big bores much better also.Ed

archdlxMetalsmith.....
You should look at the 475 Turnbull! I am thinking of turning a Siamese Mauser into a 18' barreled truck gun.

The MetalsmithHey thanks for the replies! It was a fleeting thought until I measured the diameter of the rim and noticed it was awfully close to that of a .348 Winchester. Figured it would be a rather easy swap once I figure out what to do with the bottom metal.
The .475 Turnbull, what casing is that based off of? That would be nice but I'd really like another .50 laying around. Thanks though! Good luck with the Siamese
