70 Caliber Identification
Hi everyone. I posted this in the cartridge collecting forum, but thought maybe someone in here could help. I just picked up a cartridge in a lot of ammo that I cant identify. It is a rimless, belted case, 3" long. The bullet diameter measures .690" just in front of the case. The case in front of the belt measures .760". The case head measures .800". The headstamp is TZZ, with the number 90. Any help in identifying this round would be appreciated.

TZZ indicates Israeli made. The base dimensions are the same as a 50 Browning [50BMG] It must be some kind of wildcat based on the 50 Browning Machinegun case.

They probably cut the 50BMG case off at the shoulder and formed a belt to head space on.
Unless this is some kind of Israeli Military Secret. [Confused]

Thanks for the info. Didn't think about the 50 BMG as a parent case. Looks good in the collection anyway.

I forgot to say the "90" indicates the year of manufacture. Is the Primer larger than a regular large rifle?

If it has big primer like BMG it is made from one and measurements are close to the 700DKT that I have,They used a hydraulic presss and pushed
the belt on.My 700 HE can be shortened and look
about the same.Ed.

It does have a large primer like a BMG. The belt looks like it may have been pressed on as well. The edge isn't quite as sharp as a factory round usually is. Pretty interesting cartridge. Looks like it would be a thumper on both ends!

Yes, it looks a lot like the one on far right, except the one I have is a loaded round. I'd post a pic, but I'm not sure how to do that on here.
