hoehne.375 H&H lightweight bullets
Anybody use a lighter weight bullet for the above to good advantage. I presently use 260 Nosler but am wondering about the lighter bullets out there especially for use on deer etc. Thanks Karl

ShopCartRacing http://www.cliffsgunsmithing.com/Cat_BC375.htmI use these just to plink with for light loads.
Loaded to a low or medium velocity, they should work very well on deer.

N E 450 No2I have used Hornady 220 FP, and Speer 235 gr bullets on deer.
I load the 220,s with 60 gr of IMR 3031. my load with the 235's is 64 gr of IMR 3031.

<allen day>I don't believe that bullets weighing less than 270 grs. have anything to offer that's of practical value, and I think Nosler blew it when they introduced the 260 Partition rather than resurrect the old 270 gr. Partition. The lighter bullets give away a lot of SD & BC, and their velocity advantage (at the muzzle) starts to drop off dramatically downrange. They don't really teach you about the real-world use and utility of the 375 H&H, either.
Since 270 gr. & 300 gr. bullets are the truly useful weights for the 375 H&H, and since bullets in that weight range get used day-in and day-out in African on animals that are the size and weight equivalent of our own whitetail deer and elk, there's obviosuly no disadvantage in using those same bullets over here. They ARE what makes the .375 H&H what it is, rather than some water-down version thereof.
I've found the 270 gr. Hornady, Swift, and Winchester Fail-Safe bullets are absolutely superb, and approximate 30-06/180gr. velocity and trajectory. Zero for 200 yds. and you've got it made........

I have a friend who swears by the 210 Barnes-X in his Win 70 375 at about 3100fps for deer and elk. I tried to convince him to go heavier, but he has no intention of ever going to Africa and these work perfectly for his use here in Idaho and Montana.

I have tried the 235 gr Barnes X with good results.

prof242As Blank and WyJoe mentioned, I also have used both the 210 and 235gr Barnes X bullets for deer and elk. Both performed exactly as expected. The flat trajectory of the 210 and more than adequate penetration on four elk really impressed me.

jackfishThe 225 grain Hornady spire point works well for deer and black bear. I use it with 70 grains of H4895 (74.8 grains is maximum in Hornady 5th ed.).
