mstarlingBrass export???
Folks,
I'm afraid I know the answer, but I ought to ask ... does one have to have an export license (permit) to send a couple of boxes of Hornady 458 Basic brass out of the country?
A couple of the fellas in Africa would like to have that brass to make .458 Express cases.
Just checkin.
Thanks,

akalininCall one of the shooters supply houses like midway, etc. The have to have some overseas business.
My uninformed 2 cents - I doubt you need an export license for a couple boxes of unloaded brass.

El DeguelloBasic brass is not ammunition. It is not even a component until sized and cut to length......
I would be more concerned about the import regulations of the destination country.

MacifejILLEGAL!! Without an export permit from State Dept. which comes AFTER you are a registered exporter. Thousands of dollars in costs and a lot of time to get set up. Most of the big online retailers DO NOT export for this reason. Huntingtons may still do it for a minimum sized order (pallets) call them a see. It is however, perfectly legal to take 1000 rounds loaded, brass, etc., for your personal use WITH YOU. As you're flying out it goes with you in your baggage. The problem then becomes legally getting it into your destination country. This all stems from a little treaty which the US is a Party.

This would make sense from a common sense standpoint but is not correct. Unprimed basic brass is not only a component, it is also "ammunition" according to the GCA of 1968. ATF uses this as a guideline as does ITAR. If you make one case or one bullet and sell it to someone without a business entity and license you've likely comitted a crime. All of these regulations are printed and available online for anyone who wants to do their own legwork.
