DonW28416 Rem Mag 350 TSX and RL15 Load
Can anyone recommend a solid load using RL15 and Barnes 350 TSXs for the 416 Rem. Mag? Not sure why Barnes manual doesn't list RL15 for the 350TSX but I was thinking around 82 grains should be quite reasonable. Any thoughts? I'm not looking to push the envelope and don't have the time or bullets available anyway to go for a max load.

Ackley Improved UserQL suggests that 82 grs of Re15 with a 350 gr TSX would be too hot. QL suggests ~80 grs of Re15 as a MAX charge for this bullet producing ~2640 fps from a 24" barrel with ~65,000 PSI.
Every gun is somewhat unique, and I believe in working up in 1 gr increments, while using a chronograph and looking closely for pressure signs.

OngweOf the four 416 RemMags I've loaded for, somewhere between 78 to 82 grains of Reloader 15 has worked great. Those have all been loaded with Remington brass, Federal large magnum rifle primers and either the old Xs or the TSXs.
Hope that helps!

DonW28Sounds like I need to drag out the chronograph and start around 77-78. Thanks. I'm going over for a late season hunt and the temps are probably going to be 100 or so and I don't want to push the envelope.

Cold Trigger Finger78 gr starting load should be ok. Anyway you can get your hands on a can of Varget?? . I think it would be a lot more temp stable.
Phil Shoemaker : "I went to a .30-06 on a fine old Mauser action. That worked successfully for a few years until a wounded, vindictive brown bear taught me that precise bullet placement is not always possible in thick alders, at spitting distances and when time is measured in split seconds. Lucky to come out of that lesson alive, I decided to look for a more suitable rifle."

pagosawingnut+1 on the Varget. With the Barnes 350 gr TSX it was extremely accurate in my .416 Rem.

Vargas definitely more temperature stable.

DonW28Thanks for the input. I don't think I have the time to find any Varget and will just go conservative with the RL 15. First loads downrange Sunday morning.

DonW28I think I'm stopping where I am. 80gr. RL15 350TSX Fed. LRM primer and new Norma brass. Sub one inch and no pressure signs. Chrono is only 2460 avg. but I rarely get published speeds. I'm not interested in pushing the pressure envelope.

Cold Trigger FingerThat is short barreled Taylor velocity. However that is a very nice, very easy shooting load in the Rem Mag. If it is accurate then you should do very well with it. . Hope you have a good hunt. !

BigBulletI have loaded up to 86 grains for the load and received 2655 fps. Since this load was a bit much for me to handle comfortably, I settled on 84 grains of R-15 at 2550 fps. Hit a buffalo on the shoulder at 15 yards and it fell on its nose. Seems to be a good combo for buffalo.
