Photo Deleted: I asked for no flaming, please, but flames we got. I posted the photo as information to those wishing to see the how the cartridge compares to a 416 Rem and 404 Jeff, but, as mere mention of a 400 H&H stirs up the wrath of some, not much point in continuing the discussion.

Same as congomike.

I am betting that once people start to see the 400 H&H round it will be come a prime a choice for the CZs etc. It sure does look good.

I won't post my answer because John told me what they are. [Wink]

The .400 H&H will of course work from a CZ/BRNO action, but you don't need one that big. Any action suitable for the .375 H&H should do just fine.

For the H&H bons vivants , that middle cartridge should be an excellent way to get in touch with their feminine sides. What a doll!

Think of the jovial comraderie that they can share when hitting the veld with genuine 400 H&H rifles in tow.

What is the proper way to shoot a 400 H&H? With pinky finger of the trigger hand extended? Or is it the pinky finger of the forearm grasping hand? Or both???

Ron,

Actually you grip the rifle in the same way you do with a .450/.400 double gun. [Wink]

Jim,
Nice try at giving some desirability by association to the excellent double rifle cartridge.

However, you are absolutely wrong about the holding technique. A bolt action 400 H&H does not have two barrels for the off hand to grasp tightly and point instinctively like a true game gun.

The 400 H&H is just more BAT, and there are certainly better BAT cartridges for any hunting purposes.

The question still stands: One pinky or two? Off-hand, on-hand, or both pinky fingers extended?

Wrath? Hardly! Rather mirth. I guess it is true, that "the king has no clothes" in this parade down main street. Just my two cents worth for free. It is called free speech. Not allowed in some monarchies where royalty goes naked, eh?

Remember folks, that was the 400 H&H that just streaked by into oblivion, or maybe just headed for the bushes to hang out and be hoity-toity.

Cheers!

Ron,

You got a good sense of humor my friend. With all the kiddies aside, when are you going to have a 400 H&H built? It should be a relatively easy job to re-barrel one of your BRNO/CZ 550 375 H&Hs. Thanks.

Ming,
I will get a 400 H&H right after I get a 404 Jeffery, and that my friend, will be when hell freezes over!

Cheers!

Please don't take offense to Daga. He has become a bitter person since someone stole his other g. Instead of being a happy person looking for snackies he is now muddy and dirty, or something like that. [Roll Eyes]

Ron, the sooner you get rid of that ugly old 416 Rugby and get a cartridge with some class and dignity you will be a finer person and we will all be much happier. A .400 H&H would be a fine start at your rehabilitation [Big Grin] and a .404 Jeffery would show honest signs of your becoming a gentler and kinder Big Bore. [Big Grin]

Mickey,
Yep, it's a dirty job, but somebody has got to do it. That's why they call me "Dirty Ron," or "DagaRon." Sort of like "Dirty Harry." A servant of public safety and sensibility, despite my unconventional approach. Stylish I ain't.

You Sir, have made my day!

Cheers!

Any caliber 40 and up is ok by me. The 400 H&H will have a .400" bore?? Sure dont seem to be a lot of barrel makers catering to .400"..... I have been interested in building a 40 (.400") wildcat that would use handguns bullets but have not seen ANY barrels in this diameter. Anyone point me in the right direction?

MSSmagnum, the 400 H&H is a .411 bore diameter, the same as the 450/400NE. I have a .411JDJ on a TC Contender that was built on a 41 Rm Mag super 14 barrel, with a 3" permently mounted muzzle brake on it so it is legal with a rifle stock.

The 400H&H is simply a 450/400NE 3" for bolt action rifles, nothing more!

A set of FN actioned rifles chambered for 300H&H, 375H&H, 400H&H, and 476H&H would make a very nice battery of bolt rifles. Though the folks seem to get upset that they are belted, there is nothing that a beltless round will do any better, regardless of the opinions to the contrary! It is a free country, if you want one, I say go for it, it's your money! [Cool]

and what about:

244, 300, 375, 400 and 465 [Smile]

It looks like from the drawings the 465 will be about 3.5" OAL with Woodleigh so porobaly OK for Mauser 98.
