ForrestBBeautiful work. I'm sure the mag box alone costs more than most factory rifles. Perfection aint cheap.

When D'Arcy gets really good he can build rifles like this
D'Arcy, this is what I was talking about when we were discussing the Alaskan Saturday night special.

www.grizzlyskinsofalaska.com Yep,
The Echols box looks like it will do.
I do like that ugly .458WinMag Mauser also, it will do too.

Huge Brown Bear skull! 29-5/8"?
Like everything else he builds, the magazine boxes D'Arcy makes are superb.
And Rip, the bear skull is quite abit over 30"

www.grizzlyskinsofalaska.com Wow! And I thought 29" was big ... Gotta check B&C for Phil Shoemaker entries ...
Most of my clients do not put their trophies in the books - but AK F&G does keep records - so far I have taken two over 30" on the peninsula

www.grizzlyskinsofalaska.com Phil Shoemaker,
The last edition of B&C that I have is the 12th, from 2005.
Record then was 30-12/16".
Kodiak Island, AK
Hunter: Roy Linsley
Owner: Los Angeles Co. Mus.
Date Killed: 1952
Has anyone beaten that, in the book, or off the book?
There are 20 others listed from 30-1/16" to 30-11/16", since 1904, as of 2005.
You are on my bucket list.

I concure,
However, Im amazed that one of ARs' gardenshed gunsmiths have not told us how cheap they can have produced and properly fitted a box&follower, identical to DArcys'.
and I wonder, would Mr.Echols and his clients be aware that;

Trax,
What does that peep sight apparatus go on? Something with a very tall front sight like an AR-15/black rifle?

The block holding the rear peep is just a fixture. I made to duplicate a rear bridge on two H&W 98's. I wanted to have an idea as to how my peep sight would look before I began cutting.
Thank you, sir, a fixture. Beautiful work.

NakihunterI propose an annual raffle for one of those rifles on AR!!!

This is an H&W.
Q./ Is Bridge mounted or Cockpiece mounted better for getting a good quick sight picture on an animal?

458WinIt is possibly, at least in theory, a tad bit quicker that one mounted on the receiver but --- it is definitely less rugged and reliable.

BwanamichI would ave thought Lon Paul's name would have come up here.............. I've seen a .404 he did up for PH Andy Payne that is classical in line and I believe very well priced

Do you mean this one?
I've handled Andy's rifle and it is quick and lively and the tang safety adds a real touch of class.

Were there any built? I attempted to order one from the custom shop and was told they could not make it, even though it was listed in the catalouge and had an order number.

DArcy_Echols_CoIf you owned a 404 made by Lon, had the chance to hunt with TGT and you shot a Buff like that one I'd be a very happy guy.

Bill/OregonThat's just a perfect .404.
There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.

Could be! I think the client had a Lott built by Lon that "matched" the 404 and swapped it for the 404 at the end of the safari........ I could be wrong?
