<JohnD>Magnum Actions
What would be a fair price (US$)for two Brevex Mauser actions, consecutively serial numbered, in the white?

<Bill Tompkins>John,
What size are these actions? On the bottom of the receiver just behind the recoil lug there should be a number, that number correlates to the action length, eg.( 03 ) means .375 length with a .532 bolt face. But if it is marked ( 03 ) and has a .582 bolt face, the bolt has been modified after the fact. Just curious.
Thank you,
Bill
John,
It just goes to show me that I should not always rely on memory.
"Bolt Action Rifles" by de Haas has a very nice description of these receivers. There were 2 models, the M300 for the .375 magnums and the M400 for the Rigby size cartridges. de Haas also confirms the lack of markings.
Sorry about the mix-up.
Bill

<JohnD>The only markings behind the lug are the serial number and "FRANCE". The only other marking is "FRANCE" on the rear of the trigger guard. The inside length of the magazine box is 3.94". They look like they were intended for custom work, as there are no crests or insignias, so an engraver would have all surfaces available.
In my searches for these wonderful actions I have never found them under $2000 a copy, sometimes $2500. Depending upon any extra parts, such as Blackburn bottom metal, new bolt handle, etc the price can up over $3000. The consecutive #s may or may not add value, just depends upon who is interested.

AtkinsonIf I had two Brevex with consecutive serial numbers I would demand at least $10,000.00, otherwise I would make a matched pair of 500's and sell them for $50,000.00 or more.
