458 lott 720gr. tyrannosaurus thumpers
I finally bought a chrono to test some of these babys out today here are my results

65gr. h4895:
shot 1 - 1804
shot 2 - 1800
shot 3 - 1817

67gr. h4895
shot 1 - 1855
shot 2 - 1843
shot 3 - 1836

68gr. h4895
shot 1 - 1865
shot 2 - 1870
shot 3 - 1858

69gr. h4895
shot 1 - 1868
shot 2 - 1893
shot 3 - 1877

70gr. h4895
shot 1 - 1903
shot 2 - 1914
shot 3 - 1896

not bad huh. i figured 70 grains max. barnes 600gr starting book load is 69gr h4895. i shot these with virgin hornady brass. cci primers. C.O.L. of 3.75" fed alright through my cz 550 stock 25" tube which have still not taken care of the weak mag spring. 1900 fps = 5770 ft/lbs.
accuracy is ok i did not shoot for groups yet. interesting load for someone like my who wants a break from the normal 500gr fodder. i will post some accuracy results in a few weeks when i go back out. i might even try some loads with imr 4064 or other powder.

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

not to bad the recoil was more noticable than a 500gr@2300fps and it should be more according to a calculator a 500gr@2300 should be 71ft/lbs and these 720gr@1900fps come out to 85ft/lbs. im getting my shoulder ready for ed's 700 hubel that im looking for a savage 210 to build on (sorry to be a copycat ed). it would be intesting to see how fast these rounds come out of his 458 hubel express. i also wonder how a FMJ or soft point jacketed bullet would shoot and performance on game. i know 500grains@2300fps is sufficient for everything that walks this green earth, but i think these round a great for guys who have only the money for a off the shelf cz or ruger and want to throw a rediculously large amount of lead downrange.

Victor1050,

thanks for sharing the exact data. You enrich the forum by doing that. Who's bullets are these? A significant amount of my tinkering has been focused on same velocity, more bullet weight. It can be expensive working with non-traditional bullet weights, but keeping the recoil speed the same, or slowing it down a few fps are your work has done IMHO actually softens the felt recoil.

Thanks again.

the bullets are made by ranger rick. who used to sell them on ebay. he has a site i do beleive ill have to dig up the info. my next task is to test accuracy on these bullets. although just shooting at 50 yds through my chrono i hit paper everytime and saw no signs of tumbling.
