Rifle weights
Because BigFiveJack asked, and since I was weighing my Heym 450 NE for him, I thought I'd just weigh all of my "African" rifles...just for $hits and giggles:

Heym 450 NE- 10lb-8oz
Ruger RSM 375 H&H w/o scope- 10lb-4oz
Heym 404 Jeff with Zeiss 1.8x5.5- 12lb-4oz
and my newest baby which will be going range-side tomorrow:
Westley Richards 425 WR w/o scope- 9lb-2oz....can you say ouch! I think the 410 gr at about 2350 fps on this one might get my attention.

For those that were curious, there you go. For those that weren't, thanks for indulging me.

RIP
The newest make of Ruger RSM .416 Rigby with the slimmer 23" barrel weighs 9-lbs. and 8-oz.

Have fun at the range and thanks for posting those weights, always interesting to cogitate on such, for a rifle nut.

Thanks, RIP...yeah I am a certifiable gun nut...or just nut, depending on who you ask.
My Ruger is a pussycat at that weight. I had the scope off of it, but it wears, typically, a 1.5x5 Loopie...about 3/4 of a pound more.
The 425 is the one that I'm REAL anxious to shoot...at least until the first shot....but we'll see.
Take care.

Gary,
Have you any pictures of the WR?
Here is a photo of one I have on its way.

Cheers,

Adam:

I will post some in the next couple of days. Mine is the plainer version...yours appears to be a higher end model...but it feeds and functions flawlessly.

Thanks.

Mike:

Just fired my 425 WR at the range today.....I can relate to your "lighter" 416's. Mine weighs 9#-2oz on the money....410 grainers at 2250-2275 got my attention. Rather a sharper blow than my doubles. But you're right...comfy to carry.

Here's two I've weighed:

Heym 470 NE - 9.5 pounds

Mauser Magnum .416 Rigby = 8.5 pounds without the scope

The 470 get's your attention, but it is not bad at all. No recoil issues at all with the Mauser magnum.

GarBy,

How are you weighing the rifles, an inexpensive electronic scales or spring scale, etc???? Since retirement, I don't have access to one of the lab electronic scales, so I can't get accurate weights.

Any suggestions or catalogues to look at???

Dak, just get one of the digital electronic postal scales. The Pelouze PE 10 is a good one. It costs somewhere around $40 or so at Office Depot or Staples.

For heavy rifles, you may need to weigh the bolt separately, because of the scale's max capacity, but it works.

Digital electronic postal scales as MR says. We have them at the office for weighing small-medium size packages. The most accurate that I have access to.
