Ruger DiamondBlack finish info? Hawkeye info?
Can someone provide me some links or info on the DiamondBlack finish that Ruger is using on the Hawkeye Alaskan?

I'm torn on which .375 Ruger to choose.
I'm leaning towards the DiamondBlack Alaskan or the African. I'll be using a "canoe paddle" on whichever one I decide.

Let's hear your opinions.

Thanks

Ruger calls it their "Alaskan Black" finish. In the fine print of their available specs, this finish is trademarked as "Diamond Black"(TM). I inquired into this and found that Diamond Black is a trademark for a sputter deposited thin film ceramic coating of boron carbide. Diamond Black, Inc holds the patent and is assisted by DOW Chemical(DBI) out of Virginia. Diamond Black is used/known in industry for wear and lubricity.

As a side note, the first 100 or so with the "Alaskan Black" finish were not stainless.

Nighthawk Custom provides this as an option on their 1911s. I have one in Diamond Black and it is awesome. I've thought about getting a rifle in this finish. Ruger is the first riflemaker I've seen use it.

So the current production ones are SS under the coating?
