PH Action 416 Rigby by Bijou Creek
I received these pictures from Mike Cuypers last night. I can't wait to actually see it in person!

Very nice. Gotta respect a man who puts pegs on the outside of his house to get good in-the-sunlight pics!

This is a Montana PH? Tell me about the bases? Look kinda like low CZs.

Yes, it is the Montana PH. The bases are custom, but there was not quite enough "meat" there to do the configuration I had originally planned, so Mike gave me some suggestions and this is the one I chose. From looking at the pictures they are exactly as he described.

The PH is set up for CZ rings.

Actually you need two front rings for the set up or remove the recoil lug that comes with the CZ rear ring.

Mike is doing mine in 505 Gibbs, along with some other calibers on other actions. Nice work.

That is very nice. Congratulations! I was taken a bit aback when I saw the peep mounted backwards but I guess it makes no difference either way. Very handsome rifle. Smiler

RIP
Is that not the standard CZ dovetail (without the recoil tab recess on the rear left side)
like routinely put on the PH by MRC?
Is that the standard NECG peep for CZ 550 Magnum, with the recoil tab milled off the left clamping piece?
If so, it is not reversed, but installed the way it would be on a standard CZ.

Clamping the standard CZ 550 Magnum ring to the MRC PH base as shown, with 60-65 inch pound torque on the main mounting bolt,
makes it the strongest possible mount on this action,
even without a recoil tab on the rear ring.
Smithson mounts with integral machining of the bases for 4-figures dollars? I don't want to go there.

Three rings are possible, but not necessary.
Two rings and a 1-pound scope held up well to this .408 CT with 370-grainers at +3000 fps.
Talley rings may be prettier, but not as strong:

Looks great! Not to clutter up your thread but I also have a PH in 416 Rigby and have some comments/questions.

1. Great to see that a nice looking stock can be made...the factory stock is ugly as hell IMO and I was wondering if one could be made to look "right" with that huge magazine...question answered tu2

2. I ordered two CZ front rings from Talley to fit the 18mm dovetails. My first shot, the scope actually slid BACK almost off the bridges. I had to torque the QR levers to the point that one of them broke and the other bent to get enough bite for the scope to stay put...still doesn't give me a good feeling. For one thing the PH dovetails aren't as deep as the Talley rings so the rings don't seat fully into them, if that makes sense. You said those rings are custom made? Wonder if he would sell a set by themselves?

Shoot 'till it's dead, especially if it bites.

I believe they are custom, but I could be wrong. I have never actually seen the action because I was in the middle of a three year work assignment on Guam when it was completed, so I had it sent directly to Mike. We talked about several different options, but I finally told him to do whatever he thought was best because he is infinitely more knowledgeable than me when it comes to rifles.

Here is a link to his web site if you would like to get in touch with him: http://www.bijoucreek.com/

I have had Talley's slip on a .416 Rigby....they also gouged my scope tube. The earlier ones I had good luck with (held fine on my .585 Nyati) the later 2 sets I have had have damaged my scopes finish badley and not held the scopes under recoil and I wont use them again. Somewhere I think they (Talley) changed something in the way they make their rings. I will use Warne maxima's over Talley's, not as sleek but dont gouge scope tube, they barely leave a mark.

I talked with Mike about your rings and he said they are Alaskan Arms CZ 550 rings. Sorry again for high jacking your thread!

That is one sweet rifle in a great calibre.

On my CZ550 416R I use Warn maxima rings and the front ring has the rear 1/4 off the rails but hold the Trijacon 1.5-4 securely.
