.375 Weatherby: It is simply the best for over 5000 foot pounds at the muzzle or plenty enough KE way out there on the veld, and can shoot .375 H&H ammo accurately at about 4000 ft-lbs if I (or the baggage handlers) have a bad day.
Also, the properly headstamped brass for it is as good as it gets.

05 April 2007, 05:59
SuperSpeedI also clicked 375 Wby since you said "hunt all over the world" which means Australia is included and the lower recoil of the 375 H&H fired in the Wby chamber will be appreciated

But you never included the 378 Wby

.....and we would load that down to a 375 H&H when fired in the 375 Wby chamber.

500grainsNo options for 378 Wby or 376 Steyr? And how about 38-55?

The 375 H&H now has 4 votes so from that we know that Dan has 4 computers

.375WH? And you voted .375 H&H. The extended pinky finger should not impair your typing that much!
05 April 2007, 06:33
Paolo9,5x73And why not? The .375WH ('White Hunter'), 9,5x73 and .375 H&HM is the same cartridge. The Ruger is too new and lets face it, only Starlets use Weatherby rifles.

"Tank" you for the clarification.

As a side note I think you will find that the vast majority of 375 Wbys are not in Wby rifles.

Paolo9,5x73Those old .375Sauerby's are quite collectable in US, so I would not shoot one. Look, every time I think of Weatherby Roy Rogers comes to mind. I just can't help it!
Herb Klein, John Wayne and Chuck Yeager crowd Roy Rogers aside in my mind.

RIP is a doctor, he might be able to suggest help.
Think of Elgin Gates instead or Herb Klien

Right. Good mental image therapy suggestion for Paolo with his Roy Rogers fixation. He should try to think of more manly men than just one singing cowboy.

Steve LefforgeMy vote goes to the .378 Weatherby Magnum, every gun mentioned and more. Plus you can down load to .375 Weatherby or H&H. Just my two cents worth.

None of the above. I'd take the 375 Taylor (375/338). Std length action, will do anything the H&H will & more, with less powder, recoil & muzzle blast.

mstarlingHave two .375 H&Hs already ... has good field proven abilities and ammo is widely available.
No flies on the .376 Styer, or the ,375 Wby, .375 RUM and appearantly the .375 Ruger either. I must admit that if I were going to get as much recoil as a .375 RUM I'd choose a larger bore diameter.
All of this implicit bashing of the .375 Ruger is silly. The market will decide.

SuperSpeedRoland needs to change the poll.
I ticked 375 Wby because 378 was not there so that makes two 378 votes and we now have a 375 Taylor vote who can't vote.
I guess the 9.3 X 62 and 9.3 X 64 should be there as well.
Has anyone seen GeorgeS around the place?

Bill Soverns.375 Ruger...why? Because I dont sell my rifles so Im not worried about a secondary market and customs typically dont hold value anyway.
But the main reason is I can build a more compact trim rifle with the Ruger chambering and still have the same stopping power.

Buliwyf.375 Weatherby. No downside. Flatter shooting, quality brass availability, can use H&H if needed.

SDhunter375 Ruger, because of the rifle it can be packaged in. It will make a better all around hunting rifle vs the BIG magnum actions.

Bill why is this important? How much more compact and how much more trim?
It seems we are speaking in increments of less than 1/2 inch on length and no difference on weight.
I guess I don't understand building/buying a rifle that you can't buy ammo for and will probably not be able to buy ammo for outside of bigger US Gunshops for years, if ever.
I voted 375 WBY. I've got an H&H and bigger but if I only had one the WBY makes the most sence. I had an Ackley for a while so I know what it'll do. Big power, flat trajectory and still an H&H if thats what you want or forgot your ammo.

458RugerNo1That's a no-brainer for me... the good 'ole H&H is my choice

AzGuyTrying to remember the last time I saw a box of 375 Wby ammo..... seems like the best reason to select the Wby round is that it can shoot 375 H&H ammo. Hmmmm??

Exactly!

Mine is a great older FN action SAKO. I love the gun; I love the chambering. That doesn't mean I don't like my 375 Hawkeye or my old Mdl 70 375 H&H.
if some's good
Then More's Better
AND TOO MUCH IS JUST ENOUGH
There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to denegrade the 375 Ruger. Mine shoots one on top of the other, is nice of feel and to carry, and feeds slicker'n Willy's dick.
Why can't some have more than one choice...Mr Ford?

AtkinsonToo much emphasis on caliber these days when it should be on the rifle itself. Calibers are in catagories and in those seperate catagories lie many different calibers which are all about equal.
I pick my 375 H&H because its an English rifle and slim trim and just feels good.
Same for my Henry Akin 7x57.
My .338 custom is my lucky rife
My old worn out Ruger 77, modified with control feed and 3 pos safty because my son gave it to me and it shoots very tiny groups.
Love my Win. 63 22 L.R., my Win 94s in 25-35 and 30-30
My double is a 450-400-3" that feels wonderful and my Win pre 64 M-70 fits like a glove and is my only big bore carbine.
Like I said caliber has litte to do with my choices.
But given your equasion of hunting the world over with one caliber it would be the 06 with 220 gr. bullets.
Bullet placement with properly constructed bullets makes up for a lot of caliber IMO.

Ray said a mouthful there. Bullet placement relegates all other discussions to secondary importance.
Since I do not own a 375 caliber, I think it would be easier for me to find/build a rifle to my liking in a 375 Ruger. If I happen across a great handling rifle in H&H, I would not snub my nose at it.

Dan, why stop there? The .38-72 is the ultimate .375 caliber. And is, in fact, the next rifle I'll be taking "all over the world". And then of course the .38-70, the .38-90 and the much much underrated .38-50 Rem.

How did an obsolete caliber like 375 Weatherby get on the list? By obsolete I mean no major manufacturer makes loaded ammo for it anymore, do they? And how come the .375 Dakota isn't on the list? More whump than the H&H, fits in a standard length action, I thought that was what all the fuss was about.
