Pete MillanPlease help me date this Pre-64 Supergrade...
Mint condition M70 375H&H Supergrade - Serial # is 577** (yes, that is 5 numerals, making it a very early model). It is stamped "Super Grade" on the floor plate. I have yet to see a better put together rifle, it is in mint condition.
This one has a different safety catch to the M70's I have seen 'til now, it works backwards, to the inside. I suggested to the owner he checks under the barrel, but he is not keen to take the rifle apart. He just wants to know the age.
Cheers
pete
Pete,
It appears to have been made in 1945.
See this link (scroll down on the left to "Manufacture Dates").

AtkinsonPete,
You have a sho nuff "pre war" gun, not a pre-64 and it has the proper safty, it works backwards..Also has a clover leaf tang on it.
Your gun is worth a substantial amount of money starting at about $3500 up, depending on condition....
Ray,
The Rule book says a serial number of 57,7** was made between 5/1/46 and 6/6/46. If the serial number and the book are correct, then it would be made after WWII. Given that date of manufacture, would you still give it a value of $3,500+ ?
